Thanks for all of your advice 🙏, if I have to check out the electrics I’ll beg your advice please………I. Fine on mechanics, welding and rebuilding but electrics are my nemesis……….I’m only concerned about things I can’t see …..like Ghosts and electricity 😂😂🤙🤙 Hi, I’m Burkie……I’ve had this Westminster TDV8 for around 3 years and love it ( apart from when it’s misbehaving) . I have been a LR fan since the early 70s and drove 110s till I bought this Range Rover ( needed a bit more comfort as the years go quickly )

I think it was found that the ends of the copper contacts in the starters carbon up (go black) and this tends to make them intermittently give the click and no start. I don’t think you can buy that bit separately like in the olden days, as it’s a complete unit.

A few on here have took the old starter apart and machined the black off the wires and full service was restored.

Thank you, I saw a YouTube video where the starter was rebuild in that way and it sure would save a few Bob……I have a new Denso arriving today at £290 from our local car component shop……..so hopefully I’ll be problem free once I fit it. I was totally confused by the hard / soft pedal till the servo bleed off system was explained, until then I was trying to remove the panel beneath the steering wheel to check out brake light and any other switches that might be hiding there. Also some Logic in one reply stating that………if there was a switch on the brake pedal inhibiting starting then the solenoid wouldn’t be getting a signal so wouldn’t click 🤔🤔🤔🤔 fingers crossed 🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 thanks to all who have given me advice 👏👏👏👏👏 Burkie33 Hi, I’m Burkie……I’ve had this Westminster TDV8 for around 3 years and love it ( apart from when it’s misbehaving) . The clicking when starting is characteristic of your starter motor failing.

So, time to get it replaced.

You have a couple of options:

1. Buy a refurb and return service of a genuine one
2. Buy a new OEM one. There's some cheaper ones (e.g. Nissen) out there but something like the Denso is typically what's fitted as a 'genuine' one 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks GaryRR, Denso arriving today at £290, I’d rather fit a decent one and give my lady some peace of mind, she refuses to drive vehicles that have problems …..she doesn’t consider them to be friends 🤔 🙏🙏 Hi, I’m Burkie……I’ve had this Westminster TDV8 for around 3 years and love it ( apart from when it’s misbehaving) . Where did you get the new one from Burkie? I’m having the same issue so would rather get it sorted before it fails entirely! Have read it should be replaced with Denso dsn1207, would that be correct?

The cheapest starter motors are around £200.

Denso is OEM standard. Cheapest place you'll probably find it is Advanced Factors (£285 I think). AutoDoc are even more expensive than that so, AF are probably your best bet. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Hi Dan, I got a Denso DSN 1207 from our small town car component shop, delivered to them the day after I ordered it ( and generally this postcode has delivery issues as it’s considered “remote highlands”…….it was £290 and they want the old one back……..but I agree with your sentiments, best to use a good one and get some mileage out of it. I’m going to fit it today so will update you once it’s done if you wish….Burkie Hi, I’m Burkie……I’ve had this Westminster TDV8 for around 3 years and love it ( apart from when it’s misbehaving) . Hi Range Rover lovers, I fitted my new Denso £290 today……all day 🥴……Iused a 4 post ramp that was eas6 to get all the shields and bolts out. However getting the starter out wasn’t that easy. I jacked the body up further and was able to “ tease” the unit out the off side……..I had to “fiddle” the starter so that from the off side, the soloniid was horizontal add to the rear of the vehicle…….it’s all done now and running, but honestly I couldn’t say how I got the Censored out……….but once it was out the replacement went in a wee bit easier………….my praises to the guys who did this on axle stands ……..my hat it off to you……….Thank you all for your advice a nd support, it means a lot……👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Hi, I’m Burkie……I’ve had this Westminster TDV8 for around 3 years and love it ( apart from when it’s misbehaving) .
