I wonder if anyone can help.

Last night I drove the car home (in the wet as usual) and all was fine.

This morning, I get to the car and notice the rear lights on - immediately I thought I'd forgotten to turn them off, but I hadn't. The car was unlocked all night. When I jumped in it, most of the ignition dash lights were on - as if I had the key turned to the ignition, but the key was still in my pocket - very odd. The climate fan was going too.

I immediately assumed water was in the amp module, so I've unplugged that, and its still the same- although it is all dry in there. I then went and tried pulling fuse 2 from the glovebox, along with the fuses for the rear heater/heated seats etc. Then the BCM under the pass. seat, and I've even pulled the centre console apart to remove the plugs from the ignition barrel and LCM under the footwell, and its still all on when I reconnect the battery.

So, with all this unplugged - what would be causing this?

I cant seem to get my hawkeye to connect to the car for diags - but that might be because the battery isnt fully charged (it was a new battery two weeks ago, so definately good, just drained a bit from being run all night). All the areas where I thought might have water ingress are all bone dry too.

As an aside, the car will start and run o.k and I can drive it - when running and I put it into drive, the dash lights go out and all appears normal, but I havent driven it far (just up and down the drive).

on top of the above stuff, I've now taken out quite a few fuses, disconnected the brake light pedal switch, transmission control ecu and charged the battery.

The brake lights still remain on, the headlights still pulse occasionally and the dash lights remain on when the key is out of the ignition.

I'm convinced its a loose connection, or bad earth or something though as the dash lights pulse and flash occasionally a bit like connecting and disconnecting the battery quickly.

Still stumped though.

I've disconnected the brake pedal switch and its still the same.

I've also now run a jumper cable from the battery to a clean bit of metal underneath and it has helped the situation. Unfortunately, in all the trialling the battery has weakened so its on an overnight charge to full power to see if that helps. 2010 L322 Autobiography Black Edition

This morning efforts show that maybe the regrounding with a jumper cable isnt the result I was expecting - and its still the same.

Ive realised that sometimes all the dash lights are off (brake lights still on) and the red oil light flickers dimly. There is also the occasional relay or similar type clicking from the top of the engine, which is odd when the battery is connected.

I'm now wondering if there is a fault with the starter motor. I've had for a little while the occasional problem where every now and then the car would refuse to start with the key - once you get over the ignition and turn the key to start it, its like the battery has no juice and fails. a second try and it starts perfectly.

I put a new battery on it a couple of weeks ago and its been fine for a couple of weeks, but two days ago it did this trick again. 2010 L322 Autobiography Black Edition

That last bit sounds like high resistance at a joint somewhere around the battery to starter, could also be a failing starter, can't see how it would give you the other symptoms though...

I had those spurious lights with no ignition on when I drowned my old one waste deep in a river in Wales, it was sorted after drying out the BCM so if I had to guess it maybe there...

I think you need to get some good diagnostics done....  Pete

I've just disconnected the starter cable from the clamp at the back of the manifold - same issue.

Get some diagnostics done then, just replacing stuff get expensive very quickly...  Pete

Fortunately, I'm not replacing stuff at the moment - just disconnecting things.

I've now got the BCM, LCM, Transfer case ECU, PDC module, ignition barrel, immobiliser, brake pedal switch all disconnected and there is still power to the car with the key out - its as if the key is in and ignition on (everything working) even though the key is out.

I've also pulled the fuses to the instrument cluster and countless others and still the same problem.

The only thing is on my mind is that I cant disconnect the brown relay thats under the transfer case ecu (its just tight)...I dont know what it does, but if that is screwed and its something to do with the ignition it could be causing the issue.

clutching at straws. I dont know what an auto electrician would do or who to call down in cornwall.
