This hobby/ passion of ours is probably sooner rather than later going to see major change. I have a 1943 lorry that currently falls in the historic camp and also help with a couple of steam traction engines/ rollers. Their coal supply has already been radically cut back, not due to the coal being banned, but the coal that the mines sell has been. That means steam coal is no longer a commercial prospect for the mines so they are stopping. We have to import it now.

Anyway, we digress. I'm sold on the 5.0, just not sure whether I should be sold on this particular one.....  Current vehicles:

I think they are much rarer than the 4.4 TDV8, so it might be a case of getting it if it ticks most of the boxes.... though a look on eBay or autotrader etc will show you how many are about....

The SC is Autobiography spec, so will come with leather everywhere. The TDV8 is in Vogue, Vogue SE, Westminster and Autobiography spec.....

Mjdronfield they certainly seem to be harder to find. 16 petrol cars on autotrader for sale right now 2010 through 2012 as opposed to hundreds of diesels.

Cheers for the heads up on specs, the only one I’m a bit confused about are the Westminster’s. Basically a Vogue with a few other bits as a run out models it seems. Current vehicles:

Yes. A Vogue SE is higher spec’d generally. Though I think the Westminster had the 1200w hifi as standard.

This thread had some useful information on the differences between the Westminster and Autobiography equipment levels, which may help?

My only grizzle on the advert, especially being a 'private sale' is, it's a very short sharp advert! No "I've owned her for 'X' years etc etc". One assumes it is a 'private sale'?
Nice colour, wheels look ok, can't see the tyre make [always a good sign if they match/well known make.
As others have said, prices have sky-rocketed over the past 12 months so hopefully they may calm down a bit.

You'll get a gut feeling if 'she's the one', always go with your gut feeling. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

So to sum up the thread a bit:

I have test driven the car. It went like a rocket and pulled well.

The front end felt slightly odd, but that could be the fact it has been aligned by Kwik-Fit. Their print out showed all green but I seemed to think the wheel was out to the left by a very small amount. Could have been the camber of the road mind.

Only other finding on the test drive was that there is a very very slight judder when pulling away under light throttle. Seemed like the transmission side of things but I wasn't that concerned by it.

The car has full main dealer service history up to 90k and then Indy's after that.

The current owner (number 3) has owned the car just under two years and is the one that did the timing chains and tensioner. He supplied the parts and the garage on the invoice verified they did the job.

The tyres are as follows - fronts, Michelin (I can't remember what) with worn inner and outer edges, hence the previous alignment, rears and spare are Pirelli Scorpions, nearly new by the looks of things, certainly over 6mm tread.

Other points of note:
- The body work is slightly blemished - nearside front bumper to wing joint is scuffed and number slightly proud, offside rear bumper to rear panel joint same without the scuff

- Offside running board has been damaged and the rubber trim on the top is peeling, near side is ok but peeling too

- Slight scuffs to the rear seat frame from the boot side

- No signs of damp in the rear quarters

- All functions of the car work

- 1 screw missing from the radiator fan cowl. Shiny black plastic trim that sits above the S/C needs fitting properly, slightly out of position. Main engine cover fits well with all 4 mount points not broken.

- A couple of minor nicks to the leather - driver's door card trailing edge being the worst but smaller than 5mm in size

- Signs of rust on the leading edges of the rear wheel arches

- Small amount of rust on the bottom end of the top part of the tailgate

- Small amount of peeling paint/ rust in the right hand corner of the bottom section of tailgate where the ram bolts to it

- Cooled seats work perfectly

- No funny noises at idle.

- Air suspension functions are all spot on and the compressor can be heard running then cutting out. No short cycling from what I could tell in the time I was with the vehicle

- All dry underneath, not much rust and no visible oil leaks

Crikey, you're making me feel bad for how little I checked over mine before plonking down 20 odd bags on it!

If it's had the chains and SC spring done, and you've already checked over the rest in glorious detail then...well the rest should just be standard FFRR ownership and all that entails. Come join the 5.0 club, we have all the grins.

Well, my gut feeling made me walk away in the end. For the price, work required and condition I just didn't feel right. If it had been closer to £12k I'd have felt more comfortable having a deal.
