Help with my knocking noise!

I have a knocking noise from the front right of my car when I turn right, I also experience a slight vibration under my foot
Through the accelerator pedal.

Main dealer can’t find anything “obvious” and have suggested I have the steering rack replaced, if that doesn’t cure it, they will think again 😩. They haven’t mentioned a problem with the drive shaft, but rather reluctant to have their work done at a huge cost, when they admit it may not fix the problem.

Any ideas? It doesn’t sound good! Help please!

I think CTC is spot on with his comments, get a second opinion from someone who knows what they are doing, if that dealer suggested such an action to me, my reply would not be printable on here.

Did they even look at the car? or take any parts off to investigate the reason for said fault ? Shocked

Main dealers love faults like that, makes them a fortune.... Whistle

May I suggest driving to Cam and seeing Craig, he's not that far from you... Thumbs Up Pete

As said above, take it to a specialist, the main dealer will just fire the parts cannon at it till they get lucky Rolling Eyes .Had a similar issue with my old D4. Main dealer said it would need front arms etc. but these had just been changed. A specialist who I used correctly diagnosed it as needing a transfer box flush and reset. Cured it straight away at relatively small cost Mr. Green Paul

Thank you, I’m shocked at the lack of trust there is with main dealers. A lesson learnt. You get the free coffee and all the bullshit, but they don’t seem to be as clued up as the indies!
My last experience was a quote to replace my dynamic fuel reservoir, well my model doesn’t have one. Feeling let down!

Main dealers pay bottom dollar for staff, most of the guys working there are fitters, not mechanics. They can plug in a computer, read a fault and then replace stuff as per the work through for the fault code, but that's about it...

You would think that the fault code work through would start with the cheapest, or free checks, but mostly they don't so you can end up hundreds or thousands into a fault with no cure...!!

Indies are usually fully qualified mechanics with the will to ensure their customers are happy, they also have experience behind decisions they make..

Nine times out of 10 an indie will be a better bet than the main dealers.

Another point is that a main dealer will fully stamp up your service book if you just ask for the cheapest oil and filter service every time. So you can buy a 100,000 mile fatty with a FULL Main Dealer service history that has only ever had it's oil and filter changed...!! Pete

A mate of mine recently had his 3.6 tdv8 sport in the main dealers for a 4 wheel alignment. While there they told him he was due a timing belt swap and quoted him over a grand to do it Shocked . He rang me the following day to ask if I knew anyone any cheaper to do. n Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Paul

This was one of my pet hates when searching for a L405... FULL Main dealer history, but when you looked into it, it was the absolute bare minimum. Neutral Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
