it is plastic webb cylinder that goes in the filter element and clicks in bottom or the top of the oil filter housing.
in this posting it is# 22 on the droving. engine is BMW petrol but the cage is very similar.

I apologise for the poor quality of this picture, but it is the only one I have taken of the inside of the filter bowl.
You can just make out the central tube that the filter slides over if you expand the picture a bit.
I need some photography lessons from Nino.

The Mahle filter. Does it have a raised bit on both ends or just one? If just one, does that end go down or up?
