Considering which year model...

After a number of years away from an RR, I'm considering getting another, this time a 405. I've noted that the 2017 model seems to be thought a good choice, with new infotainment system being called out.

When exactly did this system start to get fitted ? Is it literally 17 registered plates which would be March 2017 onwards, or did it get fitted to any 66 plates cars that may have been registered early in 2017 ? Or even late 2016 cars ?

Any info appreciated.

I think it was all part of the facelift. If I were looking around that age, then that's where I'd start - one with the updated lights, so really easy to tell from the pictures.

There were some lemons at the time, glitches with the infotainment system seemed to end up with some new cars being rejected by their owners and others suffering many extended trips back to the dealership. However, that all got sorted & would expect any car you buy now to be free from those problems.

Good luck with the search Thumbs Up

thanks Alistair. I'm going into this eyes open, but I just don't see another vehicle that does what the FFRR does, hence the appeal !

Is there much of a consensus on the value or not of a warranty e.g. warranty wise, which seem to be at the better end of the aftermarket warranty market....I was just thinking it may insure me against any real bill shocks..?

I did a lot of research when looking for my recent FF and decided the MY17 was ideal as it had the updated infotainment system and my budget didn't stretch to the facelift MY18.

You can't rely on registration date either. The easy way to tell a MY17 over previous is to check the infotainment screen. The MY17 has a wider touch screen with soft buttons in a single row along the bottom of the touch screen. I saw loads of 17 plate cars which were actually MY16.

Externally it's difficult to tell, especially as it's very easy to fit facelift MY18 rear light clusters to earlier cars.

Drop me a PM and I can email you the MY17 brochure.

On warranty, if you're going MY17 and up I would recommmend having the LR Approved Warranty. You might even find a car with an extended LR manufacturers warranty.

The latest infotainment system (Duo Pro) was fitted to the 2018 March onwards facelift model. This is easily identified by the duo screens. The interior also has different seats and seat adjustments on the door, not on the side of the seats.

Externally it also has new headlights and rear lights plus a new grille as mentioned earlier in the thread.

If you want the latest Infotainment system you will have to buy 2018 onwards, but make sure you have all the latest software updates installed. There were many glitches in the original.....Don't I know it!!! All LR cars from 1984

My car is a November 16 on a 66 plate, it’s got the upgraded infotainment system with the relevant updates and patches done.

I felt the MY 17 was hitting the sweet spot in terms of value and tech, You get the more modern infotainment but don’t have the duo screen system…. Proper buttons

It remains my favourite model of L405 for looks. I’m not a fan of the duo screen and I prefer the subtlety of the hidden exhaust tips.

Each to their own though. Thumbs Up

thanks for all replies ! I narrowly missed out on a well priced (given this market !) 67 plate last weekend. I think I have landed on preferring the 17 model, each to their own but 'm not a fan of the front end treatment on the facelift that followed.

Plan is now to see what turns up on 17 plates, Vogue SE or Autobiography. Must haves are sliding roof, ivory interior, preferably tow pack, but I guess I can fit a detachable tow bar if needed... I also prefer 20" wheels or 21's diamond turned, but again I know I can change these if needed...

I was considering a Cayenne 4.0 diesel, having entirely ruled out, but I see they're not without issues (transfer box) and I don't like Black interiors - why are so many German cars like a coal mine inside !

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but will revert as and when...
