MOT Brake Testing Question

Hi All

Its that time of year again for my 2003 L322 Range Rover to have its MOT - this is the first time i will be getting my Range Rover a MOT and i have a quick question on the brake test in the workshop manual it states that the range rover must not be brake tested on a 2 wheel rolling road without removing the stationary driveshaft from the transfer box (i.e. the one not on the rolling road) but the local garage where i was going to get it MOT'ed said that testing it on a 2 wheel rolling road will be ok without removing the prop shaft, is this correct or should it be tested on a 4 wheel rolling road. What happens with your range rovers?

Haven't had my FFRR MOTed yet but when i had my subaru impreza they did a road test for the brakes.

Paul the local MOT guys did the same for my Defender for the last 11 MOT's - if no 4wd rolling road then it's road tested 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Has to be 4 wheel Rowling road or de-accelerometer! Anything other will result in a big bill for MOT centre for new transfer box and other it's! He's talking Censored !

4 wheel rolling road or road test - has been ever since the RR was launched and permanent 4 wheel drive in the LR's.

Any mechanic who puts a permanent 4x4 on a 2 wheel rolling road wants a smack in the mouth - that is one sure way to burst a gearbox / transfer box / half shafts. LR used to put warnings on the dash of RR's and LR's.

It makes you wonder whether the fact RR's go through gearbox and associated parts is actually down to mechanic incompetence rather than an issue with the box.

BMW's with the same box don't seem to have any problems, so why would the 4wd RR?

dont take it to them as they should know better you cant put an alltime 4wd on a 2 wheel rolling road it must be road tested ....incompetent Censored give him a slap from me "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

i think you will find that modern "rolling roads" are quite capable of testing 4wd vehicles,what happens is the opposite wheel on the same axle is reversed by the rolling road,therefore the differential rotates NOT the propshaft.

I already replied to you when you posted on the other topic about this - the RR is permanent 4wd so the front and rear axles are connected together via the transfer box. Anything that happens on one axle should happen on the other.

In the event that the rolling road turned the wheel in the other direction this would confuse the hell out of the ABS DSC - this would result in a skewed reading because the DSC would cut braking to try and stabilise a "stationery" vehicle.

At the end of the day Vosa are quite clear on this: "Any permanent four wheel drive vehicle/vehicle with centre differential should NOT be tested on a two wheel rolling road"

If the MOT tester can't follow this BASIC instruction then what about the rest of the MOT!?

Well she has passed with flying colours Bow down I took it to someone my dad knows at a vosa test garage and he also tried to convince me to have it tested on the brake machine but I insisted on the tapley test, all sorted for now for another year yay!! Don't you just love the feeling of having to pay for someone to say how good your car is....oh how I love that feeling Whistle
