United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Bonatti Grey
2006 4.2 supercharged

So I've seen a range rover on ebay up for £2450 however the add states the car is overheating. I don't have any issues stripping it down to find the fault but what's people's opinions on doing this with a car with 163k on it. These engines good for 200k or so. I'll be doing all the basic stuff soon as I get it like gearbox service and flush, full service blah blah blah.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-Land-Rover...890.l49286

It will be used for towing the subaru around with the intention of me going to gatebil and the nurburg ring next year.

Any suggestions folks

Cheers all

I saw that one too.

First thing that would bother me would be how hot they'd let it get before they killed it.

I've seen SC's with 300k on them on eBay before. They seem fairly trouble free cars if looked after. Supercharger bearings will probably need doing but other then that, routine maintenance items at a guess. It depends how well looked after it's been up until now.

That's good to read they see 300k. I normally keep them until its an end of life jobbie. Tbh going for the worst case I'm guessing it would be a head gasket job. I'd probably just get the blower refurbished anyways doing all that work

Tbh I think I'll go for it. I'll offer him £2k and just see what he says. Either way £2495 is a decent price for a charged range that I can do up on my days off. Haven't even gotta worry about getting it back home as already have a trailer and tow bar..... OK the fuel bill might hurt being a petrol but all good

It might not even be worth you towing it back.

When I bought my SC in Yorkshire I was quoted £275 to have it delivered to me, 18 miles west of Glasgow.

By the time I factored in fuel alone it was hardly worth going down with the trailer, when I added in time, mileage, etc. it became a no brainer to have it delivered.

Put the details into Shiply and let them start competing with each other for your business. It's amazing the results you get sometimes. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Trouble with Shi$ley is most of the cowboys on that site don't run with correct insurance for the work and most will think a ffrr will go on the back of a 3.5ton van that can't even take their mums vauxhall astra. I've had a friend who bought a car and got some melt of that site to deliver it. Car didn't show up for 3 days and no word on the driver. Turns out he got tugged by dvsa and had the whole lot impounded as he only had standard insurance so van, audi rs6, trailer and vauxhall zaffira vxr all parked up for no insurance so he got me to go and get it all for him. Even git the job to get the vxr so I told the fella sell it too me for £1.99 and then I can get it out and get it home for him

I spend a lot of time looking at the quotes and I only choose the ones with lots of feedback, good scores and the ones who are advertising as being insured. The last guy I used was Braithwell Vehicle Transport and I can't rate him highly enough.

Car was collected when he said it would be, kept in touch and it was delivered when he said it would be too even though he didn't have a return load to get him home.

Nice!

How quickly does she overheat? Any signs of bad running? Fingers crossed it could be a knackered thermostat or something simple like the water pump.

If left idle prob about 20 mins, if you floor it maybe a few mins. No obvious signs of head gasket to worry about but diagnosis will start tomorrow. Time for takeaway and a few drinks now. Started work at 5am and went for this at 1pm.
