U.S Regional Dealership restrictions?

Hello all,

Shopping for a Portofino Blue/Ivory (no Navy interior) Westminster SWB. I would prefer a V8, but might explore the V6. I found a pretty perfect one in the Midwest. I am in the DC area. Called them up, was told they are restricted from selling outside their area due to LR policies?

Is this true? Is there anyway to overcome it? If not, I supposed I'll order a custom one and wait 6 months.

I appreciate all the advice.

It’s not so much a restriction but a lack of bonus. LR dealers get financial incentives for selling vehicles within a region. They can sell to anyone but if it’s out of region they don’t get credit towards the bonus. It’s easier for dealers just to say they can’t.

That and it cuts down on the possibility of exporters if you sell to people who live nearby instead of somebody across the country. 2021 Mercedes G63 - Cardinal Red/Classic Red

Going back in time...... In the UK when I was a Jaguar dealer (35 years ago) you couldn't sell 'out of area'. The way round it was you registered the car to a helpful local addressee then instantly changed it to the correct owner. Car was sold in area, factory happy, new owner was a second owner but knew the story and happy to accept to get the car.

Might not work in the States or if the dealer doesn't really need the sale!
