‘08 L322 aircon cold then not then cold

Greetings from the States gents,

Hoping maybe someone can shed some light on my HVAC problem I’ve got with my Rangie. If it matters, it’s an ‘08 HSE with the Jag petrol N/A 4.4 lump.

Backstory is I got it through a friend who works for an LR main agent. Very nice shape, local rig it’s whole life and serviced at the dealer always.

I’ve owned three or four L322s over the years but all were the BMW 4.4 petrol engine which I never really cared for. The Jag engine is of course much more suited to the FFRR so I’m very pleased he nabbed this one for me when it came in on trade.

Anyhow, the aircon is wonky. Sometimes it’ll blow ice cold, and I mean frigid, but then the cooling starts to get weaker and may or may not eventually return to full cold. No rhyme or reason as to when it happens and environmental conditions don’t necessarily seem to have any effect (eg first drive in the morning or after several drives throughout the day). My first thought was to check refrigerant level but given it gets so cold when it’s working, I don’t know that I’ve got an issue with low Freon. Next I made sure to pay attention to the outside temp reading as I know the HVAC takes a read from that and it appears to be accurate. So my last thoughts are either the in-car temp sensor in the HVAC panel or else the evaporator temp switch.

Not sure if/how in car temp sensor can be checked other than seeing if the little aspirator fan is drawing air across the sensor (I assume this is the arrangement). I presume if I get hooked to a scan tool I can look at some feedback from various sensors in the HVAC...

Thanks all for any ideas. It’s hot in Ohio and I’d love to have the aircon consistent! Don’t want the RR to roast me like my TVR does in the summer Twisted Evil Cheers,

Could be overfilled with gas, it's getting so cold it freezes the pipework which stops the circulation and it stops working, warms up, defrosts and works again etc etc....

Get it regassed with the correct weight of gas, got to be the cheapest thing to start with as well.. Thumbs Up Pete
