2010 Conversion - DIY - Rear Lights/Wheels & Vents Fitte

Well the 2010 conversion bits arrived today Really can't wait to get it all fitted. Will be doing it myself, seems to be alot of hush hush about this and I don't really know why..... But hey!

Mine is a 2004/2005 Range Rover Vogue with the touchscreen navigation but the square headlights. So it has pretty much everything I want except the RSE (Another thread to follow on that...). I love the shape of the new cars and after a bit of research into this, I thought I would tackle this myself.

Some very good resources out there, namely the www.l322.com for some pictures. My main concern was the wiring at the rear. This is now sorted and I will have fully functioning lights at the rear working correctly 100%.

A nice extra I have seen is the bumper has the front cameras on it with all the wiring!!! So they will be getting wired in somehow to something though I haven't a scooby how we will achieve that yet.... They are 4 wires on the main loom for it.

Wheels wise, I have some 22" Tigers to go on. I think these will be spot on, though will be finding out on the ride. If not I will drop to some new 20" wheels off the Vogue SE I think...

No mine already had it from factory. Last of the square headlight models, but has the touchscreen nav in. So I got the BMW engine as well which I was pleased with

So a good day yesterday, I have wheels, vents and rear lights fitted as well as the front bumper painted. Got some walk through here.

Firstly I removed the front vents. Brief guide (Thanks for the ones on here). Pretty much the same except don't remove the lower panel completely, rotate it around and there is enough room. Also a 10mm ratchet spanner is your friend hugely on these!!

1) Lift the bonnet and locate the bolt as shown below. Undo with a spanner, careful of your bodywork.

2) Open the door completely and sharply pull the top half of the panel away, then the bottom half. Rotate it to the left as shown below.

3) Undo the bolt behind here. Once this is done there are no more bolts securing them.

4) Now remove the vent by pulling out and to the right. Also it sometimes helps to open the door to get a better angle.

5) Get your new vent, line up the tabs on the left of the vent inside the whole and weave it into the gap. Again open the door at different angles to align.

6) Once this is done it is fitted.

7) Put the bolts back in top and bottom, tighten the lower one first and then the top one to get the gaps correct. Take your time.

Stand back and admire your work!! Suits bonetti grey so well these, once clean.

Right moving onto the rear lights fitting. Out of interest I plugged mine in directly, no error messages, no fog lights errors at all which was strange. I don't give it long though so i've wired it in correctly. Now to point out here you do need resistors wired inline to the side lights and the indicators due to the LEDs. They require less power than standard lights (This I like to think of my contribution towards my carbon footprint reduction!!!!

). These will also be required on the front lights too.

1) First of all here is the wiring loom for the resistors and relays etc.

2) Open the boot and remove both 10mm bolts with that ratchet spanner.

3) I used a thick piece of plastic and a plastic screwdriver to gently prize the rear light out

4) Unclip the wiring loom, push the two ends together and slowly release

5) Strip out the boot floor, remove the 2 rear covers and undo the 6mm allen bolt and remove the 2 rear carpet inserts

6) By hand remove both the plastic inserts inside

7) Drill the spot welds out on the brackets. Then measure accurately and drill 2 6mm holes into the bodywork

Insert a gromit with a small amount of silicone on the inside into the hole. Careful, you can cut your finger.....! Part number below:

9) Lay out the wiring loom you have made and ensure all wires are straight

10) Cut back the insulation here. Has to be done well, the resistors are mounted here and will get hot!!

11) Mount the resistors in the space you have created.

12) Ground off the resistors onto the 2 handy ground points on either side.

13) Tap into the rear side light feeds and the rear indicator feeds and terminate.

14) Ensure the lights line up nicely and connect and rebolt in

15) Power up the resistors and enjoy your new lights!!

*** I have to add a few more pictures in that. Wiring diagrams to follow once I have done the front end as well ***

Now with a poorly finger it's complete so very pleased. It all suits well, i'm very pleased and that's all what's matters cos it's my Range Rover!!

Quick clean today and fitted the new wheels.

Just wanted to clarify this (as it's important) - I think you mean wired in parallel, not inline (series) - from your words it sounds like you've wired in parallel, which is how they should be connected.

Thanks for the positive comments guys

Dave - Remap is purely because that's what I do, but the Range Rover seem to lack slightly in the midrange. Throttle response was quite slow as well, sharpen this up to not make the pedal feel as long travel if that makes sense as well as that flat spot from standstill. Also removed the VMAX at 130mph just cos it was there....!

Pleased with it, it's not a massive gain such as the TD6's and the TDV8's but a nice low and midrange gain. Feels easier on the motorway between 70mph and 90mph as well (On my own private runway I have on the estate....). Fuel wise, keeping an eye on it. Runs some more timing in the maps, leaned out slightly on the fuel and a few other tweaks. Overall very pleased. More than welcome to test drive mine, would appreciate any feedback. Used to have:

thats great, my mates 2004 4.4 petrol,when he had it was cipped and would leave my one for dust,not sure if it would make a huge difference but i have 22" and he had 20" apart from that they were the same.
would like to get involved in that, only for my own use...
your facelift looks great in that colour, did you ave to change the front bumper iron. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
