3.0 td6 gearbox question

I have a question.

Has anyone come up with a re-engineered gearbox (improved materials ) for the TD6 ? If not theoretically couldn’t you replace the materials with higher spec ones to increase the longevity of the box?

There must be an Engineer or three on here.

Thanks for that, interesting read.

Looking on trader the prices are close to disco 2 ones. Leaving only the P38 and Freelander 1 as the cheapest land rovers.

if it could be made mechanically reliable it would be a good price point for a banger that you’d not lose much money on and have a comfortable but slow ride (although faster than my series 3!)

the only question is does it just move the failure point on to the next weakest point? And if so what is that?

TBH at the lower end of the price range and those that may have not been well looked after there could be a lot of potential issues. I would go for the best you could afford and make sure it’s had a good life. There is a very good buyers guide on the Wiki that goes over the td6 specifically. That will give you the main areas to look at.
