L405 Fixed Panoramic Roof Cracked

Driving along the other day and there way an almighty bang, quick inventory revealed cracked roof glass.

Reported the matter to the NFU who put me in touch with Autoglass. They didn't appear to have a clue so after a few weeks chasing I got in touch with Harwoods Landrover - who came back with 4.5k. I queried the price and was informed it is not just the glass they replace but the entire 'cassette'.

Coincidently Autoglass called today with an appointment to replace the glass with a Range Rover Sport part - when I pointed out I did not have a Range Rover Sport I was told that the part was ordered based on my vin number and he was 100% certain in was the correct part for the L405. I asked him to confirm this in an email which of course never materialised.

Couple of questions:

Does the entire unit really need replacement? - It didn't in my LR3.

Is the fixed panoramic sunroof really be the same on a RS and FFRR?

Has anyone had this done, and if so, but whom and at what cost?

Thanks in advance.

Surely the "cassette" is the sliding/tilting type roof and the fixed is a piece of glass bonded in?? Paul

My understanding is that the pano roof (either fixed or opening) sits in an aperture in the roof and come as a complete unit, so just slot in. Easier to replace the whole cassette than replace the glass, as the cassette has to come out anyway if you want to replace the glass. Based on my experience with a Mini and apparently the same supplier makes the sunroof units for both LR and Mini.

Check your glass insurance , that might cover it as per a windscreen. Mine did. To be clear, it cost 75.00 excess , doesn’t affect your no claims. Some companies include all glass including panoramic roof, &’others don’t.

Yes the cost is lumpy otherwise. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

All sorted - Covered by insurance (NFU) and replaced at local LR dealer.

Did they count it as a full claim - or under glass excess ?

Good result - but you can see why some insurers are changing their coverage....
