For anyone wanting to change their Engine Oil - a quick Guide

This is ONLY for the TDV8 4.4 FFRR

Ensure the Engine Oil is WARM - not cold
Ensure car is on a flat level ground
Remove the Engine cover
Remove the Plastic Sum guard - Ensure you have properly supported the FFRR on AXLE STANDS - Never get under the car without supports - as air suspension can lower at anytime - FACT
With all our cars I leave the Drivers door ajar this stops the air suspension from lowering - ALWAYS USE AXEL STANDS
Ensure the Hand brake is on and car is secure on flat ground.

Get a large container to catch the oil - you will need something that will hold 10 Liters plus
Carefully un-clip the Drain plug - see pic
Remove the Engine Filler cap and put in a safe place ( not on the side of engine where it can fall in & lose it )
Socket set to UNDO the Oil Filter hard Plastic Housing:

Oil Filter housing:
Loosen the Oil filter cover 3 turns ONLY and allow to drain back into the engine before fully removing it ( approx 3 mins )
Remove the Oil Filter paper element completely
Remove the Oil Filter O-ring seal and DISCARD OLD ONE

Once the engine oil is drained ( approx 10 mins )
CLEAN the component mating faces on the DRAIN Plug and ENSURE you push back home - Check & re Check this !

Clean the Oil Filter housing & fit a NEW Oil O-RING - Lubricate the NEW Oil Ring with CLEAN ENGINE OIL.

The Oil Filter Plastic housing has to be Torqued up to 27Nm - NO MORE ( its plastic thread - ENSURE Its cold before you install & torque up - as plastic shrinks when cold. (most of the time it will be hot still - allow to go cold)

Fill with ENGINE OIL ( see your manual )
The Owners manual says 9 Litres
The LR workshop manual says 9.5Litres for Oil & Filter change
ALWAYS PUT UNDER THE QUANTITY - YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD !!!!!!!! - its hard to take away

I usually put only 8.5 Litres then top up when the engine is warm - this way you can never over fill
The Oil Menu display will tell you how to add

Check everything - then start and run for 10 minutes - stop engine and check for leaks

Turn ignition on

PRESS the Right hand directional button on the steering wheel to access the instrument cluster menu
the service menu will appear

PRESS the right hand button OK to confirm

PRESS the Right hand directional button on the steering wheel to ACCESS the OIL LEVEL DISPLAY

PRESS the Right hand OK button & follow the instructions
PRESS the CRUISE CONTROL CANCEL BUTTON TWICE WITHIN 2 SECONDS

The message center display will revert to the normal display in the trip computer
Check the oil level display shows an OIL LEVEL READING

Only after having started & run the engine for 10 minutes, switch off the engine, then stabilizing for 10 minutes, take a reading from the oil level display and ADD oil if necessary with the correct grade of oil.

NOTES:
Amount of Oil required to bring level from ' Min ' to ' Max " mark on Oil level indicator is: 0.94 Litres (2.00 pints) (1.00 US quarts)

I also can't see the pictures and I don't know why?

What is meant by "clip the Drain plug" ? Is this the hose at the side of the oil sump?

I thought it was sucked out with pump and drained a small amount from the drain plug I do hope your way is better than I have been doing?

The detailed description from Emirates A380 says:

I believe this means draining the full amount.

Is there much to using any flushing agent or cheaper oil after draining old oil to run through and clean some more gunk out prior to filling up with lovely new spec oil? I've seen a few vids on Tube of You that do this...

RRover - With reference to using 'flushing oil' have a read through this thread.In particular Treebor99's comment. I look after engines from truck sized, we call them little ones, through to engines the size of a three storey house, and we NEVER EVER use flushing oil.

Ran a high pressure centrifugal compressor for 20 years, think it had 3 full oil changes in that time, never flushed once.

Diesel 32 cylinder powrr gen packs some had continuous oil changes due to the leaks they had

Well it can be using the pump method. Did mine Thursday this week on the drive before the weather turned! Clean job and nice and straight forward.

Yeah, I ended up reading those threads and ordered the draper pump if I only use it twice it’s going to be worth it to not have to get under the car and fill a bowl with oil.

Anyone know of any good offers on oil at the moment, I’ve done 6k since my last service so time for an intermediate oil and filter change.
