Crikey I only originally wanted to get some opinions, but the inexpensive tyre haters that apparently sometimes are called tyre snobs went full Ninja Mutant on the subject, which to me had the 'slightest' whiff of funded spouting for the expensive top brands.
You could compare some of this to a year or more ago, when the mask manufacturers legally stated (they had to for legal reasons) that their masks were not designed for virus type flu malarkey's... But that all got hushed up. Lots of elites are racking it in now thanks to PPE...

Do people genuinely think that, for example, where a major manufacturer owns other brands which are sold more cheaply, the cheaper tyre has the same investment in its design and development and performs just as well as the flagship products? Is it just brand snobs who choose a Michelin over a Riken, when they’re both from the same company?

By that measure, you wouldn’t be driving a Range Rover, you’d be smugly enjoying exactly the same experience in your SssangYong Korando for a fraction of the cost.

suggesting surprise that "people [may] genuinely" think that the design and development between two tyres is similar, and then projecting that entirely bogus & irrelevant point into whether they should consider a SsangYong instead of a RR is another classic straw-man argument

there are:

'cheap' tyres
'cheaper' tyres
'expensive' tyres
'more expensive' tyres
'very expensive tyres


but the marketing men will try to get us to use phrases like

'budget'
'mid range'
'premium'

these words relate to the cost but they convey a sense of 'worth' to the buyer with the underlying message that the more you pay the better you will feel about it  2010 VSE [Roger]
