I am looking at fitting a towbar,

my question is do you need to configure the car to get it to register

I have just had a removable TowTrust bar fitted with the 'plug and play' electrics. They worked immediately without any activation, in terms of indicator repeater lamp, and also disabling sensors when reversing etc. What I haven't been able to get to work is TowAssist as I assumed that 1) I have this and 2) it would 'appear' when reversing when towing.

Not sure if any activation would make this appear, or maybe I just don't have it after all. Not sure how to check.

i take it with tow assist you mean the camera guiding you to the tow hitch

i think that may be an option, my last one had the deployable towbar the only assist i got was the line guiding you to the hitch nothing else

if that works without any config i think thats as good as it gets

Yes to get everything working correctly you would A, need a trailer/caravan without LED lights! If this doesn't allow the system to work correctly then B, you would need the diagnostics/CCF files manipulated

Yeah the lights are non-LED on my trailer and caravan. I can't even get the option to get the camera to zoom in on the tow ball when reversing... So a CCF edit would do that then you reckon?

The tow electrics will work plug and play, but to get everything IE, beepers disabled and guide to hitch via the camera you need a software update, a good indie who specialise in Land Rover can usually do it for you
