Is this normal??

I noticed some oil in coolant.
Is this normal??

Oil cooler fail. a common fault in this engine. Either replace the O rings or better still, if you can afford it, change the oil cooler, as they can go (i.e. the gasket fails) inside.

You will need to get your coolant expansion bottle and system flushed out or may need to change the bottle as well (£70) if it is stained with oil. My guy used FORTE Bio degreaser (only £17) and 2 hrs labour to flush. 3 hours for the Oil cooler change.

They checked the cooler it is ok.
It is not oil.
It seems it is because i put pure antifreeze and that is the reason.
I did not know i must mix with water. I thought it would mix in there;)
We will try to empty tank and look for a week.
If not successful change the tank. 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

I've put neat antifreeze in loads of times on loads of different vehicles, always do when topping up a bit, never had any problems, it always mixes either straight away, or after it's been running a while...!!

I think they don't want the cooler change job maybe....? Pete

I really have no idea.
Anyway after a week i will change the coolant.
He said antifreeze is different although i used red and it did not mix with old one and removed some sticky rusts. 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

If you mix OAT (red) coolant with a non-OAT type (blue?) then I believe they can react and "gel" up?

Put a clean white absorbent, lint free cloth into the top of the coolant tank then slowly immerse cloth into a bowl of warm clean water, then you will see if any oil floats to the top. Probably not in your case. Thumbs Up

Like Haylands, if it is just a little top up, I always add neat anti freeze to the system, it doesn't take long to mix in.

If you are getting a lot of 'rusty residue' then it may be a good idea to change / flush the system, if just a little then just keep an eye on it.

That surprised me because old and new are both red.
Something was not right about new red antifreeze maybe!

Yes I tried white cloth check yesterday and there was no scary blackish looks.
After a week if it is ok we will flush if not also a tank change. 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

As an aside, I've always used OAT orange/pink colour in mine. Was browsing in Halfrauds (SWMBO was in Dunhelm mill looking at stuff I'm not interested in) the other day, when I had a look at the in-house book that tells you what type of antifreeze to use. Was a bit perturbed to see that the other type (blue) was recommended for mine! 😳 Previous cars:

I will flush the system but Coolant low fault never disappears now.
Can bad coolant conditions cause this? 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

I changed the coolant.
I used the return pipe that is at the top of the tank.
First water coming out was terrible but it never got clear as fresh water.
I added water continuesly with hose for 5 minutes then added coolant till water coming out turned pink.
But still coolant is not clear as used to be.
Is it because i did not use big hoses or radiator tap to empty existing coolant?? 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

Is it possible to remove sensor under the water tank?
I think sensor is too dirty to detect. 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.
