United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Galway Green
A year looking and 20 years dreaming!

Hi guys,
So, after introducing myself here in October 2020, in Feb 2021 I found ‘my’ MY2011 Range Rover Vogue in green paint, light interior, clear glass and good history. It only took me a year of looking and 20 years dreaming to get a Range Rover.
On a late 60 plate in Galway Green with Sand interior (it even had the side gills painted body colour as I would have done) the car came from a ‘prestige car dealer’ in West Sussex, specialising in BMWs. It had 127,000 miles on the clock, three previous owners and was a 220 mile round trip away in the middle of lockdown! It sounded good, only failed one MOT (for misaligned headlights) and loads of service - on its second service book. The first owner had it for five years all main dealer, then a Central London based Polish chap who had services (still trying to translate these) at an LR indy in Poznan (MOTs done here).

For the past four years the car was kept by the owner of a well-regarded Devon LR indy. I spoke to him and was reassured that he had looked after a car he had himself bought with confidence. He serviced it just before exchanging it for a sporty BMW. A front air suspension bag was replaced just before he traded it in. Rear brakes serviced, oil cooler seals done, turbo hoses and front strut wires replaced, nearly new tyres (TOYOs) and gearbox flushed. ‘I have never left things to develop and I have all the gear to do it,’ he told me. So I bought it.

Since then I have had it looked over by my indy (Loughrans at Towcester) ‘very clean and dry underneath’ and the other week it had new brake pipes front and rear and the front screen washer sorted (loose wires). Pipes would have gone to the next MOT in December but I also want to keep on top of things.

Negatives - the bonnet looks as if it was driven behind a gravel truck with loads of horrible touched up dings (now looking for a good paint guy in Northants), the front seat leather showed those 127k miles and the interior needed a bl**dy good clean (sorted with a kit from Car Leather Dye, excellent colour match and finish – Mrs Greevar well impressed, plus for every interior surface some elbow grease and diluted Stergene - £2 a big bottle in Sainsbury’s).
Armed with the combined knowledge of this forum I bought a Sprinter jack and aluminium boss, have changed out all swollen wheel nuts and weather permitting I have front wiper blades, rear wiper arm and tailgate struts to fit (bonnet ones done a week after getting car). I have also bought a secondhand iCarsoft LR2 (cheaper but not as good as an IID I know, but a way in to full Monty diagnostics?)

And the car? So smooth, so quiet and so much torque and power. I can see now why I was steered towards (and warned against) trying the 4.4 against the 3.6. If the average mpg readout can be believed I am seeing some crazy numbers, low 40s on a cross country run to Rutland, mid and upper 30s around town! Yes I live in dread of the bongs, rely on Italian tune-ups to keep the DPF light at bay and avoid some car parks like the plague, but that goes with the territory, along with a broad grin, wafting imperiously along, waving out lesser cars at junctions and that V8 howl!
Thanks for listening and help getting here,
Ron Thumbs Up
PS the front seat headrests have the silver adjuster buttons facing out. How do I get them the right way round, facing in?

Hi MJ
Thanks for the page from the handbook.
As far as I know the silver button, which adjusts the tilt of the headrest, should be on the inside of the headrest.
On mine the silver buttons are on the outside - the window side!
It should be easy to just swap the drivers headrest for the passengers and the buttons will be in the right place?
The rears are easy to swap over as they pop up and out.
But the fronts are electrically adjustable. Is it possible to pull them up and out, or are they fixed, connected by a wire or cable?

Ah, I see what you mean now. I don’t know, never took any out. As you see in the handbook, the manually adjustable ones come out. I’m sure the electrically adjustable ones do... they must do.... the workshop manual is downloadable from the wiki, that should say.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the subject will be along soon....

Lovely looking motor, Ron Thumbs Up

Concerning the stone chips on the bonnet, if you fancy having a go yourself, take a look at the guide I wrote after I did the chips on my old RRS...

Different year I know.....

Looks like that’s it. A little ball and socket is used, so you need to pop it out with a firm knock upwards.....

MJ - Thanks for that. I will take a deep breath and give it a go. It would make sense that the head rests/restraints are held in a fixing that is itself driven up and down electrically, rather than having a power cable to the restraint itself.

KN - Here is one of the chips shown against my mobile phone case. There are about 10 of them between 10 and 20 mm long, through to the metal and with a dob of, presumably, Galway Green paint badly applied. They are all on the horizontal surface of the bonnet not the leading edge. It could even be some kind of corrosive fluid rather than an impact. It might be a job for Chips Away?

Nice colour combination. i saw this in December, but was put off by the mileage. So now I've illogically just bought one with even higher mileage! 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

Thanks to everyone for your comments and to MJDronfield - thanks for the tip on removing headrests. Said a prayer and firmly yanked them up and each popped out.
Now swapped back to as they left the factory.
