Part throttle WHISTLE ..... WHOOSH

Sounds like a book about steam trains....but actually, is a noise my L405 4.4 TDV8 AutoBiog makes once its warm. It's reminiscent of my GT4 Celica I had about 20 plus years ago, with a waste gate ..... so when it changed gear, it gave a satisfying (then) chirp....which now, older and wider (maybe...?) is an annoying chirp. When I held it on the edge of the boost the other day....it actually sounded like it was intaking a breath after having its head held under water!! It doesn't do it all the time, or when its cold it seems.....but it does definitely do it. Sometimes, noticeable when changing gear?

I've not had the car long...just outside the 3 months from the dealer (who would have let me take it back during the first 3 months...but being about 1.5 hours away, mixing it with work and the lack of a reliable second car right now) was proving to be a mahoosive PITA to do.

Langley 4x4 had the car before i took delivery, to give it a once over. They did some coolant system work (which at first seemed to leak but has settled now) and also at my request, dod all the fluids and diff and gearbox oils....at a cost of £1800 to the dealer....and they said it was a decent example. Seems great, but for the chirp and an intermittent, working tailgate (sometimes just won't shut on the button...despite several resets)

Any ideas? Bow down Question

Still missing my 2006, 4.2 Supercharged Sport. Needed buckets of cash to be thrown at it in the not too distant future....but i did 80k trouble free miles in that motor and loved every one of them

It sounds like a leaky intake hose that only leaks when everything expands when it gets warm.

It could be worth taking the car for a drive so it's warm, then doing a smoke test to see if a leak rears its head. Kev

There was a similar noise that the 322 made, a little bit wastegate sounding, does yours do this in normal driving? Or just when maneuvering.

In terms of the boot shutting, does it not shut on the car button or fob button, and do you press it and get a beep? The boot won’t close when you press the tailgate button if the car is locked and it is opened on fob. This is to stop you locking the keys in the boot. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for this. I was wondering if it was an inlet issue somewhere. Just drove it this morning....didnt boot it around much....not a warm day up here in Berkshire and it made no noise. I'll get it looked at by a specialist nearby I think and see what they say... Thumbs Up

Who do you use in Berkshire to get work done? I only ask as I haven’t had any problems with mine yet, and it’s still under dealer warranty, but it would be good to know where to take it to when I do have issues.

Thanks

Here’s a link to my, still unresolved, whooshing sound:

Viewed an L405 4.4 SDV8 today. 2014 model.

With the bonnet open and revving the engine moderately, upon backing off the accelerator pedal there was a pronounced whoosh / intake noise. Resonated towards the engine cover from the two intake vents in the drivers side inner wing.

I appreciate these are air intakes and that suction / intake will be heard / felt but on this car the noise and resonance after backing off the accelerator pedal seemed more pronounced. Was told by on site technician that it was normal though. Current
