England 2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Orkney Grey
Had a bit of an accident

Had a bit of a mare this afternoon chaps, basically got the front of the FF up on a couple of axle stands, when one breaks, resulting in the car sitting on its discs.
To cut a long story, rather short, she’s now back on all four wheels, but refuses to start !!!
Tried jump start, nothing!!
The only thing I can think of is, the axle stand on the drivers side ended up stuck up the engine, if that makes sense, and I’m wondering if it’s damaged any wiring.
Any one got an ideas Big Cry

Won't turn over, or won't start...?

Could be damaged wiring... ripped off the earth lead to the engine..?

I think they have a cut off in case of an accident which might have tripped in, not sure how to reset it on your model...

Won’t turn over mate, lights on dash, but nothing if I press starter !!
I’m wondering if the jolt of it falling has triggered something !!

Just took the under tray off, axle stand has put a big dent in starter motor, expensive lesson learned me thinks Embarassed

What type of axle stand broke? Make, loading ? Image ? .

I used some Halfords 2t axle stands the other year to do a job on my old L322 and noticed straight away that the foot of one of them started to splay. very quickly put it back on the ground and bought some 3t stands. Drives:

Frightening.
I have a couple of 6 ton stands. Always go over the top.

I guess a few valuable lessons here, we shove them in the corner of the garage not giving a second thought about using them. An annual inspection must be a good idea?

Just FYI i always leave the jack in place and if the wheels are off, push them under the car, out of the way but also might give some level of clearance should the worst happen.

Wouldn't save the starter motor or anything else but may just save you??

Sticking wheels under the car is a trick rally drivers use, suspect a few have had their car fall of the quick jack on rough terrain in a welsh forest!

I must admit, I now religiously put the wheels under the car when jacking etc. I had a focus come off the stands when it sunk in to tarmac, stand went underneath and punctured fuel tank. Was scary to say least.

I think the ground we were on had something to do with it, the stand sank into the concrete, causing the fall.
The stands were rated 3 ton, and I’d used them before with no problem.
Lesson learnt !!
I was giving the old girl a spruce up, powder coat wheels, new set of rubber (AT3s)
Sort paint bubbling on upper tailgate , fresh set of mud flaps, and a few minor bits of bling.

Aye Stan, that's exactly what scares the bejesus out of me when using stands & jacks etc. Like the time i was changing a wheel, lowered the car, hadn't put the handbrake on , cue the car rolling towards the garage ( my drive is on a slight slope) I panicked, and thankfully I still had my long half inch bar on the last nut, which jammed into the drive , stopping the whole car .... could have been worse.. Shocked

I have always thought these plastic ramps seem a good idea for non wheel related work, but havent had any experience with them and they seem a bit low.
These sort of things, anyone had experience with them or know of any taller ones?

As I jack mine up on tarmac, I always put substantial pieces of hard timber under the trolley jack and axle stands, to spread the load. Also where one axle stand would do, I always use two, belt and braces style, so to speak Thumbs Up
