Valve cover gasket replacement - Recover Freon from A/C???? | |
Hi everyone,
On my last oil change my mechanic noticed a small oil leak from the valve cover gasket. I didn't even bother to ask which side assuming that it would be a cheap and easy job. I figured I'd just replace both sides. Shows how little I know about working on a Land Rover!
First, the price of the valve cover gaskets are exorbitant! Left side is $277 and right is $180 (USD). Plus, $140 in additional seals (bolt seals and spark plug aperture seals).
Then I take a look in the service manual and one of the first steps is to recover the Freon from the A/C and to disconnect one of the lines!
Has anyone does this job? Do I really need to drain the Freon or can I squeak the covers off leaving the A/C lines in place?
Thanks in advance!
