A freak gust of wind on an otherwise calm day and a metal cabinet door hits the side of the car!

It’s hit the door edge where it meets the plastic grille. It could’ve been a lot worse I suppose.

I’ve seen PDR firms removing door edge dents on YouTube bit theyre all American based. Having said that, it tells me it can be done.

Here is the dent. It looks worse than it is as the reflection around it accentuates it a lot.

Someone like 'Dent Devils' mobile specialists maybe, ( There seems to be quite a few different specialists ) may not be so easy as it's right on the edge, maybe worth a go contacting one of them and then E-mailing them a photo. See what they think.

My neighbour used DentDevils on his 10 C class Merc and was pleased. The dealer he bought his 14 E class from used the same company when said neighbour pointed out some marks.

I don't recall how close to the edges of the panels the repairs were. DD will come to you.

I emailed Dent Devils a photo of the dent and they said they can’t do it. I’m suprised at that to be honest. I do have a number to someone who does rectification at JLR so I’ll see what he says. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I do remember Ed China having a glue system for repairing dents.

I'd get some felt furniture pads, then place a piece of stiff wood either side on top of the felt pads and go gentle with a g clamp.

Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) is generally done by using tools from behind to push out the dent. That is why something like that on the edge is probably not doable with PDR as the door skin folds around and stops you getting to the back of the panel edge.

Other methods are glue or tacking a small welded pin onto the spot then using a puller to lift out the dent. The first is paintless, the second needs paint. I doubt you will get enough leverage with glue given again the proximity to the edge as you are trying to unfold the ding against folded metal not a flat panel so there is a lot more resistance in the metal.

I would probably ask a couple of body shops for their opinion - again not an ideal place to "fill" as its so close to the edge you run the risk of the filler coming out.

So in short a real bu**er of a job

AFAIK they train a lot of the dent removal guys across the country, and bring in a lot of the tools that are used.

Friend of mine works there, and some years ago he managed to completely restore the side of an old Honda Prelude that I had which some **** reversed into in a car park. didn't leave a mark. Your repair may be a tricky one, but this would be my first port of call.

This cannot be done with PDR because it’s on the edge where the metal is folded, it’s 3 layers thick there, it will need normal body repair to knock the dent out then fill and paint as the panel beating will damage the paint.

kevinp has the right idea except I wouldnt use wood or any material cushion as it would absorb the metal
"peak" on the inside of the door edge and not push the material back into place.

My idea: Get 2 small pieces of 1 inch angle iron, file and sand one face on each piece until its smooth and flat, finish with
wet & dry.
Make sure it is perfectly clean with no dust or grit on the polished surfaces. Now get some masking tape and stick only
one layer on the surface of the one to be used on the visible outside skin.

Remove the side vent, tape the 2 angle iron bits in place and using suitable tool (G clamp etc ) clamp the sandwiched, area checking as you increase the pressure.

The door has a curve, clamping flat metal to it to ‘push’ the dent out will just add a flat to the door to panel beat out, also the back of the door there isn’t flat either.

It’s not a difficult job to panel beat straight but will need paint.
