Lower tailgate gap

Hi all between the bumper and lower tailgate is a massive gap I’ve not noticed it really until it was clean and the sun was shining should it be this big?

2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF

2002 4.4 V8 FF

If I look horizontally across the flat lined panel, the gap on mine is about 2 to 3mm to the bottom lip of the tailgate.
Mine looks and works OK
