My 2010 4.4 TDV8

Thought I'd start a thread with the indent of documenting ownership of my recent purchase, a 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

I was fairly specific with what I wanted, my ideal combination was black exterior with ivory interior with no mudflaps or side steps. This one came up at a decent price and although it had a few issues I decided to take a punt on it. Ever since I made the silly decision to sell my old 3.6 TDV8 I have been longing for another so just had to get it out of my system!

So here it is just after a quick wash the day after I bought it

I spent the whole day going over it and working out a little list of issues and areas I'd like to address which are as follows

2 new tyres and wheels to be refurbed (or a new set bought)
New tailgate straps
Seats refurbed
Tear in drivers seat investigated
Wheels balanced
Keys replaced

So I got straight to it. Firstly was to rip the carpet up and find out what in earth the small area of rust was all about, this turned out to be a bracket where the accelerator bolted to, it had become a little worn and rust therefore I tidied it up with a wire brush, applied a rust inhibitor and then painted it

Then I bought some ivory dye from Amazon and hit the seats

And also replaced my shabby keys with some cheap £10 Amazon ones which are brill!

And that's where I'm at so far. I'm on the hunt for some mats to protect the carpets and other bits and pieces just one step at a time. If anyone can rotate the photos for me that would be great as I am on my phone and it's a right pain

It's called colour lock. It was about £42 for a 15pml bottle delivered if I remember correctly. I went over the front seats quite a bit and then at least one coat on the rears and used about half a bottle. Good stuff just take your time and make sure the seats are clean.

So, tackled a few jobs recently

First was replacijg both bass speakers in the front doors as mine were blown. I got two brand new from duckworths for £100 delivered. Actual replacement of speaker dead straightforward but getting the door card off back on , what a bloody nightmare!!
Anyway I now have lovely crisp clean audio. Below is the old knackered one, the new one looks exactly the same obviously

Then I tackled the illuminated tread plates. Neither side worked and I initially thought a fuse or relay might have been knackered. However after reading a thread on here I bought a few 30cm strip lights from eBay

Once in my possession I took off the old lights and cut the connectors, wiring them to the new cables and fitted them in the trim, not in the original place but stuck opposite the clear lettering. They work spot on and was a nice easy thing to do. I am absolutely shocking with electronics so happy it turned out good

That’s a good looking car.

Top work on the seats! Was it a fairly straight forward process? Mine could do with sorting but I don’t know if I’m brave enough.

Seats were dead straight forward. I just gave them a could clean using some wipes and left them to try for a few minutes then applied a gold few coats of the dye.

Initially I tried to mask off the black piping but that was too fiddly so I was just careful around the edges. Had the heated seats on to help them dry a bit quicker too. Very happy how it turned out. Slightly better pic here

Have made a few changes over the past few weeks to the TDV8. One of the biggest things on my list from when I first picked it up was t get the rear windows tinted. I felt so exposed driving around with clear glass and really didn't think it suited the car. I went for limo black and got it done at a place on the Team Valley Gateshead at a reasonable price. Used them before for my disco and cant fault them to be honest. Few pictures of when I got it back

Next step was to get my private plate back on which had been sitting on retention for quite some time after selling my 330d

i then decided I wanted to tackle the rear arches and the sills. On my last L322 I could see specs of rusting starting to appear on the sills but never did anything about it, I wanted to take all the plastics off this and have a good look. to my suprise there was very little rust at all, just some starting to show on the inner arch where it meets the sill. I decided to give this a coating of Kurust before applying Hammerite under body seal. Must admit, wasnt too keen on the idea of Hammerite from all the bad reviews but in all honesty seems like a cracking product and hope iit will prevent any rust forming anytime soon. Nice and easy job. Had to buy a pack of sill trim clips from ebay though as I obliterated nearly every one.

then managed to paint the backbox using my favourite ever paint, Hammerite stone chip shield.

Dave had a quick check over make sure everything was running right too

also managed to blag some genuine mats for the 2010-2012 model years with the little holes for the carpet clips, managed to find them on ebsay from a Land rover dealer for the grand total of £39 including delivery!

and then a quick shot of it parked up next to my disco taking all the space in my street Laughing

Also I've given it a full service including all oils and filters (minus transfer box oils as couldnt get a hold of the correct oil) also topped up coolant, calibrated the suspension and generally just keeping on top of it for now

Seeing those mats just reminds me how much better they are than the ones LR sell you for the L405; the drivers side mat doesn’t go behind the pedals in the same way and it means you get a load of grit and dirt on the carpet in that area. A real pain to clean.....

Agreed, the L405 driver’s mats are just rubbish.
