Park Assist - Anyone brave enough to use it?

Still getting to grips with all the gadgets and toys etc on my AB and wondered about the park assist - does it actually work (using some LR voodoo tech) or a bit of a gimmick?

I'll admit I've not been tempted to try it yet but might give it a go if others have used it successfully Whistle 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zermatt Silver

Due to owning a 2006 model, this is all science fiction to me, but would love to have a go at this.
Have you lost your sense of adventure Sir? You could do a 'Wiki' demonstration video for those less adventurous. Thumbs Up

I then had a re-think, and realised that as I have sensors front and rear, I do actually have park assist, Smile in a manner, but with an added bonus.

The bonus being that a secondary park assist feature I have built in is a permanently fixed tow bar that looks like it was built by Brunel, it immediately tells me if I have hit something, Thud but with no damage to my car Very Happy

EDIT - I do take life seriously - sometimes............

If it’s the same system that Jaguar use then it’s a pretty pointless gimmick. I’ve tried it on my F Pace and it works fine BUT any space it deems big enough has to be so big that if you couldn’t park in it blindfolded then you shouldn’t be driving. I’d be gutted if I’d paid for it as an option.

Tried it in my wife's i-pace, it's pretty scary and has nothing to do with the one from Volvo, for instance, which is quite good. The JLR one has trouble finding the free places and the interface is not intuitive, but you already know that, as the 360 view, represented like it is in the Range Rover, is hilarious! A relatively large screen, but a 3cm car!

I'm sorry, but these things are simply gimmicks, if you can't reverse park a car you shouldn't be driving, end of, and if you can then you don't need the stupid things. Sorry for rant, but these ever increasing 'driver aids' (read dumb down driving skills) really hack me off. Drives:

I've used it twice in 5 years

next time it kerbed the wheel and marked the alloy Twisted Evil

not used it since various other LR's this one is still the best

I've tried it a couple of times, just to see how it works, but only for parallel parking. It worked absolutely fine both times, but takes quite a bit longer than doing it myself. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Exactly my experience with the F Pace. Mrs S has it on her Mini JCW and we used it once and decided it was a pointless gimmick. Glad we didn’t fork out, both cars had it fitted anyway.

Seems that the general consensus (much as I expected) is that it's more gimmicky than practical.

I've always been pretty adept at squeezing into tight parking spots, even in a FFRR. Sometimes surprised myself and others with how small a space I could get the Westie into. Thumbs Up

In my experience it's much more practical to have a passenger (aka SWMBO) shouting "You're too close, you're going to hit them!" Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Range Rovers are pretty easy to park, as you sit high up and can see all the corners. My last car, a 7 series, was much more difficult and you really needed the 3D surround cameras to park it properly. That had park assist as well, but I didn't use it, would have done without the cameras though and I class myself as really good at parking. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I have attempted to use it maybe 4 times and have been able to use it just once. I would give it 5/10 for parking quality and 3/10 for convenience. That said, I do think it’s reasonably clever. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
