Airbag?

I was just looking at lowering the rear bit of the headlining to remove the roof aerial (problem with GPS) when I noticed this:

Is there really an Airbag there, if so what exactly does it protect. Obviously if there is then its probably wise to disconnect the battery. Has anyone removed these panels? Geoff

Curtain airbags? Probably safe to remove, I removed the A pillar trims (for dashcam mounting) and the screws are under the logo...
