United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Mariana Black
New FFRR owner to be

Hello all,

New to this forum as just i'm just about to pick up my new 2011 RR 4.4tdv8 Vogue once i get home from the wild north sea.

Looking to do the full Front/Rear & transfer box fluid change when i get it home. Done a bit of research myself but i know first hand experience is always better.

I've got the following in my basket...

Front diff - Castrol syntrax long life 75W-90 1L
Rear diff (locking) - Castrol BOT 720 2L
Transfer box - land rover special transfer box oil 2L

Also got my hands on various other parts for oil cooler gasket, wheel arches & plenum intake hose replacement but thats another story...

Any advice or corrections would be appreciated Very Happy

Welcome to the site, as a relatively new member, I have realised that there are some awesome wizards who post on here - They just hide their pointy hats. Thumbs Up

The 'Wiki' section on this site puts other sites to shame, and is a treasure trove of knowledge / help.

Know what you mean about the 'Wild North Sea', I work on VLCC's, the NS is one of the very few areas where I have seen rogue waves from different directions at the same bloody time. Big Cry Not a nice experience. Censored

Are you sure it’s got a locking rear diff? Not a very common option.

Yeah i've had a look through the Wiki section and looks fantastic, should be a doddle to fix most things...

I work on an FPSO here and we're currently getting battered by this latest storm, not sure what they have named it yet? Salty seadogs will survive anything.

I might be wrong about the locking part, i believe it is the electronic type that comes as part of the adaptive dynamics package?

Again just going by what i'm reading online... have never owned a RR but looking forward to it.

Welcome.

If you have Adaptive Dynamics, it doesn’t automatically mean you have a locking rear diff. Depends if it’s shown on the 4x4 info screen in the car, symbolised by a padlock.it will show a padlock for a locking centre diff, as they all have those, but might not show another on the rear axle.

Relatively rare option, as already mentioned.

Thanks for the advice. Would the electronic diff be standard for the adaptive dynamics or is that a different spec altogether?

It doesn’t come with adaptive dynamics, but you can only have it as an option if you have adaptive dynamics.... on the later cars anyway. If that makes sense.

Not sure if you can read this.... I split it on the last 2 pics to make it bigger. The order is the same, ie view them as a continuation left to right...

Lots of expensive options to pick from! Pictures are very handy thanks. I cannot see anything specific to that option within the vin spec build so I imagine it is possible not selected. If so then the front and rear diff oils are the same? I’ve bought a workshop manual so might be spec’d within that. Anything specific I should lookout for on the 4.4tdv8 to help with reliability?

The Workshop Manual is downloadable for free in our Wiki mate, top right under the fullfatrr banner.

Not sure about the fluids. Might be in the owners manual. That’s in the Wiki too.

I just had oil cooler issue with mine, but looks like you’ve read about most things already.
