New Defender == Kia Soul

Watching last Sunday's topgear and seeing that three door new Defender I said to my wife...You know what that looks like, and she said it as well; Melissa's car, a very ugly Kia Soul....

My gosh that thing is ugly...Or perhaps more positive (but slightly lying) is that it is very sensitive to what colour you order it in....

Talking about bad colours; that fire engine red did the G63 no favours either...It has always been one of my favourites ever since I got one assigned in the armed forces, but that version was hideous as well.

Tbh given how long the defender has been around in its original looks, its not something they should have changed. Soon as I see it I just thought my god I wouldn't wanna be seen in that even if I was dead.

G63 is pretty cool and bonkers but like you say the colour let's the side down.

I agree, the new Defender isn't an attractive car. I walk past a parked up every day on my travels and as much as I love LR's, having owned a few Defenders, I can't say I like the new one.

Wonder if it's by the samer designer responsible for the Discovery 5? Everytime I see a Disco 5 from the rear, it looks like something Hyundai would have made 20 years ago, when they still made ugly, ungainly cars. Even they've sorted their design act out like most of the Korean manufacturers.

Sadly you are right, that latest Disco is also one ugly car. What is with the asymmetric back? It made sense when there was a spare wheel on it, now that looks daft. It doesn't look classy to me, much prefer the outgoing model...

If only the Korean cars put out more interesting engines like the Stinger, and used some better quality material on the inside then they could become very interesting.

Think the thing is there's certain cars out there that you simply don't change the body work on. I mean look at porsche. Their cars are pretty much the same body style. Still looks like a squashed beetle but you see my point. The disco, defender and range rover are cars that shouldn't be messed with as they hold a reputation on the road n not for breaking down lol

Think the same about the new defender and disco, truly horrible to look at.

If you think the Kia Soul is ugly, then use the link below, be warned images burnt into your brain may never be deleted. They make LR designers look like amateurs when it comes to destroying a cars soul. ( I know !!! couldn't resist it )

I don't mind, and respect the kei scene actually. And I even don't mind Barry boys. Neither of them take it to seriously.

But Land Rover really? The only saving grace for the Defender is that it is functional, has capability and purpose. I think buyers have some sort of excuse. But Kia Soul, or dare I say Suzuki Wagon R as well...

On the other hand, it's always the same when a newly designed car comes to the market. Nobody likes it some even hate it.
Same for me, had to stop at the Land Rover Stealer in San Diego one day and they were just lining up the all new L322 in their show room. My first thought? Oh no! Big Cry
Now I have to keep my classic now for ever as I will never ever buy one of these ugly pieces. And now? I have my second L322 and it was same again with the L405, didn’t liked it at the beginning. Whistle

Oh dear... I must be the weird one as I think the new Defender looks the nuts, especially in the flesh...

I also rate the Kia Soul, I think it looks great....

However, the L405 is only slowly growing on me....

Oh well, boring world if we all liked the same thing.... Thumbs Up Pete
