Restricted Performance P0405  EGR sensor A

Hi,
Re: P0405 EGR sensor A
I am hoping one of you good people can offer some advice.
I am, intermittently, getting the restricted performance warning and sometimes the yellow engine warning symbol, but it never goes into limp mode. Sometimes it goes days without either warning and when there might stay for a few seconds or all day. When the restricted performance warning is there accelerating hard more often than not clears it.
The following fault codes came up when plugged in:
P0405 EGR sensor.a
P1335 position sensor

I have tried Wynns diesel egr extreme cleaner and Revive Turbo/Egr Cleaner but not sorted.

Any advice on what the next step should be would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.
Guy

Hello,

i replaced EGR in my case - exactly same behavior with yellow triangle but no limp mode, sometimes right after start, sometimes like 1-2hours after

take a look at positions of EGR valves (in %) via diagnostic if you can or there is EGR valve test procedure in SDD and other "better" diagnostic

I'm not so sure the error code is related to your limp mode.

9/10 times restricted mode on the 4.4TDV8 is cause by boost leaks.

Search here for 'donut hose'

Also see here as to why I'm suggesting the code is not the cause

Not exactly the same code but it's the same sensor Cheers, Greg

Many thanks for the replies. I think replacing EGRS will be the last resort due to the cost.

I have searched for "Donut Hose" but noting came up?

Mine is a 2009 (2010 facelift) L322 3.6TDV8, with 160,000 miles on her.

The yellow engine light comes on rarely, it is the Restricted performance warning that is more common (although never actually goes into restricted performace).
Yesterday was a prime example.
Started up - no warnings.
Reversed slowly to turn aaround - very lumpy (that's unusual)
Pulled away - lumpiness gone, driving fine.
After a coulple of minutes Restricted performance warning light appeared.
Drove for 15 mins, mainly through the lanes, and the restricted performance light was on more than it was off.
Parked up for 15 mins, drove same route home, warning didn't come on once!
Made a couple of short 5 min trips later in the day, again no warnings.
I haven't been out in it today.

Could it be the battery? As it normally only makes small trips the battery does take a bit of a hammering and it really doesn't like the cold weather. Had the AA out a couple of months ago when wouldn't start but that was put down to the short trips. Was told battery and alternator were both good.

Probably clutching at straws but thought might be worth the ask!

Thanks in advance.

new EGR valve cost me about £230 and i did it myself at garden Smile .. its 3hr job as i have exactly same car

but its good idea to make high pressure smoke test too i think that boost leaks are common on these engines too - two upper rubber pipes from intercooler - but i never had any leaks with two similiar failures (one is EGR and other one is differential pressure sensor) but again you have exactly same symptoms as i had

also i think battery will came up with loads of different error codes - mostly electronic .. but its only my opinion

good luck

Thanks.
I did have a top intercooer hose split on me last year so both top hoses have been replaced (with silicone).
I think the smoke test may be the way to go next. I have the rest of the hose set as only fitted the top two as easy to do.
I'll report the outcome.

Many thanks.

I’ve had a P040D code for ages had no issues caused by it.

P0060A code I recently had was related to boost pressure, mine was my fault as appeared I hadn’t tightened a jubilee clip after removing turbo actuator valve.

My boost code only showed up on iiD when I did an advanced search.
I’d suggest doing an advanced search if you haven’t already & see if anything else come up.

Not sure if you’ve seen it, but this post has same codes as you currently have.
