Frustrating because the original part used to be around £10! When it was on Part# CWE000090 then it was superseded to YDM000010 as is a ridiculous £175! |

Plus you will need to pay someone with full Land Rover Tech to program it to "Start" the car as the lock programming will not work for the immobiliser....

Key for the early models come programmed to start the vehicle, but they need to be coded to open the doors, The early cars don't need the keys to be set up on the computer but the later models do. |

Anything Facelift will defo need LR programming. I had a new key on a 55 SC and that needed programming to start the car. Its easy to program the new key to locks yourself |

I only have one key with mine (2003 Model), and my local dealer (Guy Salmon) has quoted me £221 inclusive, for the key, car and immobiliser programming.

No, he will need a new key from LR or he could change the case over from your key and throw the interior parts away |

LR requires you show them proof that you own the vehicle by producing the log book and you also need your driving license or passport as proof of who you are. The new key does come pre-programmed to start the vehicle, but has to be programmed to open it, a simple enough task which can be read here |

The key is made of 3 parts. 1) blade needed to turn the barrel and start, easy to change get new ones, 2) electronic button bit, can be programed to open/close doors etc. Any key which is the same on eBay can be programed by yourself to open/close. There are BMW keys that can be used, 3) transponder chip! This is the hard bit which needs dealer programing to talk to the immobiliser. If you have spare keys with worn buttons the chips can be moved from key to key but if you only have one key it's a trip to the dealer to be dry humped in exchange for a new key. |
