2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aintree Green

Hybrids are a solution to a “problem” that buyers never demanded, though.

Thx for the comments. The extract from car magazine below suggests that a 6 cylinder hybrid will be on offer. Interesting...
I think for now I’ll definitely skip the 4 cylinder hybrid, at least until they confirm the L460 engines. That 400bhp 6 may just be the way to go.

New 2021 Range Rover: engines and specs expected

Mild hybridisation with e-boosting will be standard across the board, except on the two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Expect these models:

Entry PHEV 300bhp P300 2.0-litre four in combination with a 140bhp e-motor
PHEV+ 394bhp/406lb ft Ingenium 3.0-litre six, standard 20kWh battery, 140bhp e-motor for a total output of 534bhp and 502lb ft of torque
Mild-hybrid 3.0-litre six detuned to 355bhp
Diesel JLR's new mild-hybrid 3.0 diesel straight six is 80kg lighter than old V8: D300 (296bhp/479lb ft) or D350 (345bhp/516lb ft)
V8 petrol BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8 range-topper good for 520bhp

I would rather take my chances with the BMW V8 than the JLR Ingenium 6. Rolling with laughter

2018 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black

I've got the P400 MHEV in a Defender X. It's an exceptional engine and is more refined than the P575 SV Engine.

It doesn't sound as nice but it's very efficient and still has a nice six cylinder rumble.

Electric motor definitely cuts acceleration lag too.

I can imagine the P400 MHEV being pretty awesome, but I have never driven one. Although I do prefer the longer wafting on pure EV which is why I did not consider it.

For the 4 cylinder haters out there, and for the record this is the first 4 cylinder car I have owned since 1994 or so, I would say just drive it. Same for the MHEV. It is only then that you can really know how it suits you personally. Mulling it over on paper will get you nowhere. Trouble is getting test drives these days due to covid is a pain, but it is doable.

I think L460 will have to launch with PHEV + MHEV, and I hope they try something exciting rather than making us wait for 2 or 3 years to launch the good stuff. As L460 gets close to its run out years in 2030 I’m gonna order the full EV version... I wonder what sort of a donkey that will be then! Oh for a time machine. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... I just had the same dilemma. I went FFRR L405 3.0D. The V8 has been phased out, even though the last 2020 model was silky smooth. I haven’t driven the D300/D350. I was going to buy a brand new Westminster but went for a 19 plate in the end, with the thought of a L460 next year perhaps. The hybrid option just doesn’t really work with its 15 mile real world range. The 4 cylinder engine is a bit of a no no. The cayenne doesn’t have the specification as standard and the bmw feels cheap in comparison. Audi doesn’t have a good alternative hybrid yet. So I was stuck with RR. I just had a 2016 Cayenne diesel which was amazingly fuel efficient and a brilliant car. Guess I will wait to see what the L460 throws up.
