With the impending arrival of my L405 I’m thinking about side steps and whether or not to fit mudflaps. My Westie had both and looked fine and I don’t think as a somewhat vertically challenged family we could do without steps. Without either mudflaps or steps the L405 looks pretty sleek so I want to make sure I don’t completely spoil the looks.

I haven’t seen that many pics of other ones with mudflaps and/or fixed steps so would appreciate any pics of others L405’s so I can gauge what it might look like.

Deployable steps are quite pricey and I’m not convinced they are what I want as the steps themselves seem quite narrow, although that may not be true as I haven’t seen any myself, so fixed steps seem more likely. I know there are genuine LR ones but they are expensive so any advice on more competitively priced alternatives appreciated. I was told there are ones available which are made by the same people, just don’t have Range Rover on the step but otherwise identical at half the price.

So, in summary I’m looking for help with:
1. Any pics of L405’s showing side steps and/or mudflaps
2. Actual measured width of side steps, both deployable and fixed.
3. Suggestions/recommendations for fixed side steps

i looked at deployables for mine when i bought it but the cost was and is way to much for me so i went for the fixed type..
ok you dont the novelty of the steps coming out and in but the fixed do the job, very well actually...

coincidently i saw a FF with mudflaps today and thought they spoilt the look..

Here's one with both.

I fitted mudflaps to mine, they do help to keep the tar splatter down but they are a pig to fit and to get to look right some of the ones I've seen fitted by dealers were awful, a small child could hide in the gap between the mudflap and bumper, ok maybe that's an exaggeration but the gaps were bad.

If you are going to do it yourself, buy some red clips before you start.

I went for deployable side steps which the dealer fitted before collection and no mud flaps, both because I like the cleaner look. They are expensive, but aren’t too narrow and I use them all the time. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Fixed steps and mud flaps for me, had them on all my Land Rovers. Never bothered having mudflaps on any of the Minis though.

I don't have side steps, but have these round stainless shiny bar thingies ( Before anyone shouts at me, they were on the car when I bought it ) they do look quite good, and the mud flaps do keep crap off the car.

As for those who are vertically challenged, is that the factor for entry or age, ahem My 8 year old grand daughter is up into the back of my fatty like a mountain goat, whilst at normal height. I did put it into off road height for a joke, and all I got was the comment - 'Grandad '

Your model looks so much better without mud flaps, whereas the L322 looks better with them - to me anyway
The only thing I would change is to paint the brake callipers black, but I am an old luddite.

Well, I'm clearly having a senior moment as I've just spotted in the pics that the car already has mudflaps

I think because it's black they are a bit more subtle.

Looking at other pics here it does seem that mudflaps look more out of place on lighter coloured cars than on the dark ones.
