TD6 Starting and loss of power

Hi all!
Wow seems like ages I haven’t been on due to one thing and another!
With all the bad press the L322 gets, over the 8 years I’ve owned her she’s been a very good car to me with very few issues.

2004 TD6. I have ICarsoft but haven’t had time to read codes yet.

Fuelled up a week ago to full as every pay day. Prob drove 100 mile no issues.
Went out last Sunday and stopped and started several times no issues.
Parked in a carpark and returned 15 mins later. Car spun over normal speed but wouldn’t fire. Tried about 10 times over 30 minutes with no joy.

Left it around 20 mins. Hit key and it turned over 2 or 3 times and fired. Drove 20 mile home no issues at all. Parked it on drive. Next day started it and stopped it 3 or 4 times no issues.
Started fine this morning. Drove 3 mile and lost the ability to accelerate. No coughing or spluttering just wouldn’t accelerate. Kept driving around 1/2 mile and it cleared and drove normal. Done this 3 or 4 times on the 10 mile journey to work. Left it at work for 4-5 hours and wouldn’t start again. Spun over normal speed but wasn’t even trying to fire. Tried again the 5 time and it fired all ok. Again lost power/lack of acceleration on way home.

Fuel filter is about 3 month old. Has around 3/4 tank fuel in.

Any ideas or what fault to look for when I plug in tomorow? Deffo feels like fuel starvation.
No smoke etc.

Thanks in advance guys

I would go for the in line fuel pump situated under the near side rear passenger seat seat .

There is a plastic inspection hatch u der the car. Have a listen and see if you can hear the fuel pump ticking.

Oh awesome guys. Can it be intermittent? And effect the loss of power whilst driving?

Is that the only fuel pump in the system? I thought I read there were 2 Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

One in the tank that lifts the fuel. One halfway along under the car and the final high pressure pump on the near side of the engine.

Have you checked around the high pressure pump for and sign of a diesel leak?

Deffo no leaks.
Will throw the code reader on it tomorow and report back.

Haha had kinda set my heart on in-line pump then. Looks a cheap easy fix! So let’s hope for that! Haha Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

I had an issue with my car bogging down under load otherwise it ran fine. Turned out to be the in-tank pump. I changed just the pump but it comes as part of the sender assy. The whole unit is now pretty cheap if it turns out to be that.

I would also change the inline pump if you have never done it, easy and cheap from ebay

You probably wont get any codes from diagnostics for the pump but should be able to read around 4bar pressure from the sender ontop the fuel filter. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Ok so couldn’t replicate the issue this morning. Bloody thing started first time everytime!

Finally got it to just turn over and not fire.

Laid under it and removed trap door. Tapped the inline pump with ignition on and it started ticking. Turns the key and it fired immediately.

Have ordered an in line-pump. Will hopefully fit it tomorow and see if that helps!

It seems it was faulty anyway so may have been contributing . Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

What can sometimes happen is that the in tank pump fails or starts to give up the ghost so the in line pump then takes the full strain of sucking the fuel up from the tank and onto the HP pump. The in line pump will do quite a good job until it fails.

When you get time maybe check the tank lift pump?

Cheers guys!!

Fingers crossed the inline pump will help. I’m presuming to test the intank pump it’s back seat out and a pressure gauge?
Or does Icarsoft 930i have that option? Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

Put inline pump on tonight and all seams fine at the moment. Starting ok and driving well.
Tried to check the fuel pressure with the icarsoft 930 but doesn’t give me the option too. Only high and low fuel line??

Oh well. Will keep fingers crossed and see how it goes

Thank you so much guys. Really appreciate it Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!
