2011 tdv8 vehicle dynamic suspension live readings

Hi All,

As the title says,
I have been looking for live readings of the Vehicle dynamic suspension on my 2011 TDV8.
I have the GAP IID, BT and having gone through all the pages I can see, I do not see anywhere that shows the live values for the amperage that is sent to each of the dampers ( 0 to 1.5A ) and will show they are being sent a signal.

Anyone know if it is there and I am just being a bloke and bloke looking, or is it something that needs a specific request from GAP? Ot is it a case of there is not a live readout possibility on the GAP?

Thanks for the reply,

I have sent a message to GAP as well to ask the question. Maybe I am lucky and they have a way to check it on the books somewhere.

Well if it is not on the GAP then I assume it would be a clamp meter to the rescue. What got me thinking about it was the Youtube video from Sams motors where he purchased the cheapest TDV8 4.4 in the UK. He used a clamp meter and a go pro to film the amps .

What problem are you getting?

Also keen to get the readings as I have a slightly choppy ride. 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)
2005 4.8iS X5, blue/black
2011 4.4 tdv8, black/black (gone)
2003 3.0d X5, Oxford green/black/manual
2021 p575 SVR, BR green/vintage tan

If a wiring fault occurs then you'll soon know about it from the displayed fault message.

Have a look here, Sam measures the voltage whilst driving so might give you what you are looking for.

Measuring voltage won't work.

Sam (in the video above) measures amperage, but I'm not sure it's as simple as that.

The valves in the dampers are controlled by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), so really you need an oscilloscope to see what's going on.

Any electronic experts out there who can confirm if there's any useable link between measured amperage and PWM signal width?

There's no doubt that the current draw will increase as the duty cycle increases as the ecu reduces damping.

Yeah, I have had a faulty sensor, but I am loooking more for being able to read the amps , and was wondering if the GAP showed this , it appears it does not.

That was the video I had rpeviously mentioned.

He is measuring Amps not volts.

Measuring voltage using an analogue meter will show a low voltage for a short pwm duty cycle and a higher voltage for a longer duty cycle but a digital meter will jump all over the place. Some digital meters have a pwm function, being able to display frequency and duty cycle.
