Tracker Removal Issues ?

While checking to see if our late 2006 3.6TDV8 was fitted with a FBH Remote receiver, I discovered a second part to an old vehicle Tracker - which still has power connections - despite probably being inactive for many years (Its got 2006 date codes on both boxes).

There are 2 boxes, 1 with a very clear "Tracker" logo & identification & a 2nd box which is linked to the Tracker by a factory made multi-core cable, but has "SafTVal" on it.

There only appears to be connections to a permanently Live power supply, Earth & what I think is possibly a loose aerial cable.

It's obviously too old to be made "active" again (I know the response from Tracker when I wanted to do it on another car where the Tracker was only 4 years old - No, buy another !)

I can't see any disadvantages to disconnecting / both boxes & only an advantage if it reduces battery drain.

Am I missing anything that suggests I should leave them in place ?

I'm trying to reduce any current drain I can as the car appears to be not lasting as long as it was doing last year & the battery is not that old.

I can't see any issues, but I might measure the current draw before taking it right out.
It's appallingly "hidden", so it'll only take 15 mins max - including tidying up. Paul,

As a first step, couldn't you disconnect the power to it to check for adverse effects before removing it altogether? John

Pete, John,

good suggestions - thanks Thumbs Up

The power supply wire is soldered into the main RR loom, but the earth is a simple ring connector secured via a bolt.
I can disconnect that & measure the current draw via the earth cable before full removal.

As there's only the power cable also to remove, it would be easy enough to re-instate if something wierd happens after removal.

Feel free to send me some pictures. I'm happy to talk you through it. They don't usually draw too much current but I have seen faulty ones constantly looking for GPS and quickly drain battery.

JNC : Thanks for the offer, but job already done a couple of days ago.

As mentioned previously, there weren't many connections. I did find a 2nd power connection, but all now removed after measuring the current draw via the earth connector.
Much to my surprise it was less than 1 mA (ie unmeasurable on my DMM). I'm thinking it may have "died" some time ago as it was installed late 2006.

PS The car is working is still working - lol.
At least now there's less wiring to confuse me or others in future Very Happy

Whatever creates the occasional battery drain is still to be found. Paul,
