Front brake pad question.

Hi all, had two front tyres fitted this morning and noticed it’s probably time to change the front pads. It doesn’t look like I have the Bremno callipers but I think it might have Brembo pads ! I have sliding callipers and the outer pad has a small metal cylinder integrated into the pad at the top ( see photo )

When I checked on line none of the recommended pads have that small metal cylinder on the outboard pad, I then googled brembo pads and they have the metal cylinder attached to the pad. I’m thinking the pads on line will fit but I can’t work out why the Brembo pads have that cylinder on them.

I watched two videos on line with the same callipers as mine and one have the brembo pads and the other the ones on line I’ve seen that are totally conventional and flat. Any one throw any light on this ?

The cylinders are damping weights to change the frequency of any squeal / vibration during braking. Paul,

Thanks Paul, looks like I have non brembo callipers with brembo pads fitted, checked out the advantages of the weight dampening and seems to make a difference.

My old TD6 had similar set up if not the same the pads i fitted never had that on them and i never had any issues with brake squealing ever i did over 30k in that car 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

From what I gather it can limit vibration and noise, most people agree with you in that they don’t ever really notice any difference about from price of course Smile

At work we normally see the ones with the weight on them fitted to Discoverys 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
2005 4.4V8 (M62) Bonatti Grey/ Parchment interior - gone
1998 4.6HSE Blue/ Cream interior (can't remember exact colours) - gone
1977 White - gone (should have kept)

I did notice that a lot of pads on the market for Discovery’s had the dampening weight on them, I’ve ordered a set of standard Textar pads and pretty sure they will do the job. Watched a video on line and the cars callipers looked identical to mine and the pads he fitted had the same part numbers on like the ones I’ve ordered.
