I made this setup so I could keep the battery on charge knowing that the car could be locked and my charger was in the dry.
I connected a fly lead to the battery and put a female 3 pin rubber plug on the end. I used a three pin so I knew the polarity was always the right way round.

I'm guessing you have a lawnmower no longer in use, good excuse to get out of that chore

How often do you charge? What size charger are you using?

I like these as it stops me worrying about driving off while connected and I would have probably wired it in to the boot fuse board and mounted it on the bumper. Bit pricey but I have seen cheaper versions.

A few weeks after I bought my car [12 months ago] my battery failed and after joining this forum I realised that the battery needed to be in tip top condition to stop all sorts of problems happening.
I found it particularly hard to get the charging leads on the battery and then the fact the charger is placed on top of the engine, open to the elements and the car was insecure with the bonnet open.
I looked into the option of charging through the tow bar socket but I've got a bad back and find it hard enough to connect my caravan lead!!
I've got a Ring brand 12amp smart charger which does a good job.
I only really use the car one day a week to do some shopping for people who can't get out due to covid. Other than that at these times it sits on the drive on charge 24/7.
I did look at the connector you suggested but couldn't find a spot to mount it without drilling a hole somewhere. I bought a new connector. Got rid of the lawn years ago.
I put a notice on my drivers seat 'BATTERY ON CHARGE' for safety.
It's an ideal set up for me because I can park close to my garage.

I really like the idea of the notice left on the drivers seat - CAR ON CHARGE. A long time ago I reversed out of the garage taking the cable and charger with me! I'm older now and not rushing about like I used to, but with age care is still needed.
I managed with a cable unit that winds into its case and a charger both in the boot. Removed the charge clips on charger leads and connected them to a S12 trailer socket - £3.00. Car locked and not too obvious on the drive. Also for driver awareness - "Back" to the warning on the seat.

I,m cooped up with a broken leg

I had to change my battery middle of last year and bought a lithium battery to try out.

Seeing as I,m laid up for a bit, I put a solar panel outside my shed where the beast lives and it gets a
charge off that every day.

I know that the majority of owners in the UK cant do this,but its a cheap way of charging/maintaining ones battery.

MagCode is what I installed under the bonnet. I had to install it on the driver side (LHD) because I park on the right side of my garage. Just needed some heavier wires to cross the engine compartment to the battery. Works perfect.
I connect the ctek mx5 only if I have a long weekend (3 or 4 days) because of the extended use of seat- steering wheel heater und FBH during the week and short 15km drive to work.

Hi, my smart charger is wired permanently in the boot, its left plugged into the aux 12v cigar socket also in the boot, upon getting home I pull out the 5 ft mains cable the charger has and plug it into the weatherproof mains box mounted on house, external wall adjacent to the drive,takes seconds. I can't forget to unplug it before leaving as I have to step over cable. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?
