Phone call crackling

As title - the phone call quality is pants on my 2011 vse. I don’t think it affects outgoing sound as nobody has complained but incoming sound is very crackly. Searched and found a few threads, but no definitive fix. Any ideas anyone?
Cheers
Roland

I'll be following this because mine does it as well, but not all the time. I'm thinking a bit of time invested in cleaning up connections might bear fruit. Drives:

my 2007 does this also even with the updated bluetooth module, I have just stopped using it, it also does the same when trying to watch tv - i was going to post a video on here to ask for ideas but will follow this also.

I get this if my phone is in my pocket. If however I put my phone in the cupholder or elsewhere in plain site of the outside world it is absolutely fine. In my case I put it down to my phone struggling for a signal in my pocket for whatever reason.
