TD6 fuel injectors & leak off test

Snowing outside and cold
so decided to do the leak off test in order to improve starting in the cold weather with the thoughts of will i need new injectors / refurbishment, i have been putting this off for a while.
This was after 40 secs of running at idle, No1,No 5 & 6 appear to be an issue.
I had nothing to loose with No1 so i decided to remove the injector (came out without any issues to my surprise) i then took the bull by the horns and removed injector nozzle !
Cleaned the needle with brake cleaner, the end of the needle had brown crud embedded and cleaned up well, flushed brake cleaner through the nozzle with an air line, at the start of this process the nozzle only sprayed out off one orifice and dribbled from another, repeated brake cleaner and air line 3 / 4 times and it was all clear.
Re assembled (this was fiddly) and installed, repeated the process on 5 and 6.
repeated the leak off test with good results, assembled the rest of the engine and road test.
it's like driving a different vehicle now more responsive and a smile on my face, one of those days where you feel you actually achieved something.

That's impressive mate and you should be proud you've got the gumption to tackle such a job. Not many of the likes of you left I'm afraid.

I have done similar to quite a few now, I also use brake or carb cleaner To clean and also check the spray pattern. I spray the cleaner through a wd40 red straw and seal the gap as best I can, it's then easy to see the 5 patterns. A well worthwhile job. I now keep a used injector already cleaned on hand at all times for a speedy switch if needed. 2007 TDV8 VSE
