After some advice please.
Pulled off from a hill start and the parking brake fault yellow light is now illuminated.
Also the phrase Calibration of foot pedal and hand brake flashes up with a simple calibration description. Carried this out but Parking brake fault still is on.

Is it a main dealer fix or a DIY fix. Has anybody come across this please?

just had a look in the WM [d/l in the wiki] and i think its the 'Electric park brake control module internal fault'

which probably means a replacement module??? ... - .- -.

Came here looking for this exact same problem as it happened to me yesterday as well - maybe there are a whole raft of them all set to stop working on 30th December 2020??

Mariana, can I ask you to let us know how you fare with replacing yourself? I'm due for MOT in Jan anyway so tempted to ask the garage to order and replace while it's in, but if it's an easy buy-and-install then I'll have a go myself and save some much needed money.

I have looked into the WM and found the twenty four page section referring to the Electronic brake module.
The more I read - yes simple to change but I am unable to reprogram so changing one over will in my mind just cause more problems / issues. I am going to book my car in. Sadly New Year and CoVid tier4 is not on my side at present.

I will let you know when sorted.

I had to speak to the main dealers - well the local 4x4 garage I take my car to and they ran a diagnostic on it. The motor on the lefthand side was faulty - even though it was making a sound and moving. They have never come across the ECU being faulty before.

I was informed that a common fault was the plastic 8mm lugs snap off the back of the plastic housing on the brake motor but sadly this was not in my case. I was also informed that the replacement motor needed to be configured and I have booked it in for £257.38 fitted.

I just wanted to pass on any details as I found them. Will confirm later next week if all is completed and working well. Best wishes for the other poorly L405.

Well mine is also doing the same!


I have changed not only the parking break motor but also the module and its still the same.

I've done a continuity test and the wiring is fine. But still I have the same warning. Caliper replacement and you guessed it. Still the same


So now I'm wondering if the second hand module I bought is also faulty... After doing some more testing its clear that 12v is not exiting the module down to the calipers when the brake switch is actuated. It works fine on the left hand side of the car, and I can see voltage coming out to the caliper.

I do also have a short to ground error code stored in the EPB module. So im wondering if the short to ground is possible to have happened inside the module and that may cause it not to output 12v to the right hand side caliper.

Happiness again My car is back for the garage with the left brake motor actuator (LR036573) replaced. They carried the work out while I waited and now its all back to normal.

The rear brake motor looked in perfect condition until it was removed then the rushy gear mechanism was spotted and hence my issue.

Yes they plugged the car in, yes they put the motors in service mode and then did other things I sadly could not see. Changing random secondhand parts could definitely be the cheaper option but for £30 for them to fit it was my option as it worked first time and comes with a warranty.

Funnily enough mine had a funny five last night and told me there was a PB fault and the PH needed calibration! Handbrake on & off half a dozen times and in the end an ignition cycle cleared the fault!

Wondered if its all the crap on the road/car at the moment?

Well mine was booked into the garage this week but has magically self cured. The light kept coming on for the first few days so I booked it in for repair and taped over the handbrake lever so I wouldn't forget and try to use it. Took the tape off ahead of the garage visit to discover a fully functioning handbrake with no warning light!
