Lock options for LR detachable tow bar

I’ve got the LR detachable tow bar.

I’m interested in security options for locking it. It comes with a pin and R clip which I gather can be replaced with various locking pins - most of which seem to come from the US.

Has anyone used one with the LR tow bar they would recommend? Not sure if they come in different pin diameter and length options? Would using one of these invalidate the approval of the whole tow bar set up (in the UK at least...)? 2016 SDV8 AB

Is that on a 322 or a 405, didn’t know there was a farmers bar for the 405....

I would imagine that the tow bar is homologated as is and replacing any part for a non standard part would potentially cause problems should something go awry.

Of course that would depend on anyone noticing that you had replaced the pin with a non standard one in the first place.

If it were me I would leave well alone, if you intend on leaving it in there permanently then a through bolt would probably do the trick but if it’s anything like the detachable head one on the 322 then after a few months it will cease to be “Removable” without the use of a club hammer and block of wood! So the potential of it being knocked are small. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for your thoughts NMJ - you’ve confirmed my gut reaction.

Yes, this is definitely on a 405 - think there are only two OEM options - this drop plate one and the electric one.

Cheers. 2016 SDV8 AB

What about running a cable through the hole in the armature (and if relevant part of the trailer) and then securing the ends with a padlock through one of the holes in the hitch plate? Not suitable for when actually towing, so would have to be added whenever stopped in an area thought risky. Only Range Rovers since 1988

You need something like this. They are used a lot in Australia where the receiver type towbar is very common.

US receiver hitch lock

As per Stans post above, there's usually some on eBay or any US based parts store will have them.

However, per NMJ - immediately not EU type approved.

Just to reply to my own question, I’ve ended up with this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/CURT-MANUFACTURIN...B00T9N6DPK

And can confirm that it is a good fit for the LR drop plate tow hitch.
