Gear shifter lock / solanoid

Does anyone know what this secondary gear selector lock/solanoid is operated by? The green arrow points to the the one that the brake pedal operates. The red arrow I’m unsure what operates it?

England 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue

I think it is operated by the ignition/steering lock. I had to lubricate it the other week . Needed to take the gear/handbrake lever surround off to gain satisfactory access. Plenty how to vids on U tube. No need to pull gear knob off like one bloke did. Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
Galaxy 2001-2007
Mondeo Estate 1997-2001
Sierra Estate 1993-1997
Uno Turbo 1987 -1993
Fiesta 1984 - 1987
Fiat 127 1982 - 1984

Did you find yours was sticking more in cold weather? Mine only seems to be a problem in the colder weather. Start the engine then takes 45 seconds or so to be able to move the stick, in the summer no issue moves as soon as you start up

Perhaps lack of use. I think it had been working up to sticking for a long period of time. I was really worried that it would entail an expensive repair. Pleased to find u tube tutorials and even more pleased that after direct application of WD 40 and then silicone lubricant spray, solenoid works very slickly. Removing the gear stick/ handbrake surround also helps with mopping up excess spray. Previous cars:
