My 2011 4.4 L322 is just going in for its annual service, only done 2800 miles this year. As my indie knows I am keen on preventative maintenance so he mentioned the power steering fluid, he says it’s not normally changed as a service item, but wondered if I would like it changed. They have had repairs to steering racks etc in the past, that he thinks could have been avoided if steering fluid was maintained.
What do people on here think about changing the steering fluid. The car is coming up for 10 years old now. I’ve done the usual gearbox, diff oil changes, just wondered if it’s worth letting him change the power steering fluid.

just looked at the inspection 1/2 sheets in the wiki and there's not mention of PAS fluid being changed..

but if its not to much money i think i would have it done.. ... - .- -.

Thanks for the quick reply Stan, I think I will let him do it. I’ll post the cost when the car comes back from service. It’s going in on the 14th Dec. Also having the starter motor changed, had the dreaded click a few times this year.

If it's of any use I changed my power steering fluid recently after 90k and 16 years. Simply used the siphon out and fill method, repeated until the fluid was bright green. I bought a one litre bottle of fluid and after about 7 changes had emptied the bottle.
To be honest I haven't noticed any change in the steering, it was ok anyway but the fluid is now substantially new and not the muddy green colour it was before.

Job for weekend.

^^ Did the first few changes switching the engine on each time, after that I just did a change after I had been using the car until I finished the bottle.

Had to have a new rack on my 2011 because it was leaking. It cost £3400 so I think any preventative work is worth it.
