So I've had my 2003 4.4 v8 for the past year and I can honestly say it's the best vehicle I've owned so here's the story of the range since in my ownership. Found this one parked up in the back of a dealership. They still wanted £2k for it even tho it had serious chain slap so after a week of emails I've offered him £500 assuming it starts and drives on to my trailer.

Result he accepts so even if it's terminal from the engine I'm still gonna be up if I break it

6 hour drive and we have it back home

Few days later, as I suspected turns out its the chain guides that are fubared so online order new kit and change that over a few weekends. First turn yayyyyyy it lives so off to the garage and mot it..... Boom passes with a few advisories so home and order the parts and get them changed.... Only one break down if you can call it that which was the rear brake line but I had that part ready to do the following weekend so just had to do it earlier.

Fast forward a year and fails it's next mot


£600 lighter but I'm not gonna complain. Could have done it myself but with covid and being a paramedic I really couldn't be bothered to do it.

This weekend I decided to do the air con rad and the main rad as when towing the impreza, it appears that the box goes into cool down mode so that's all been done n I'll soon find out what happens if that's fixed the towing issue



Other then that, I absolutely love the car. Best one by far I've ever owned. Only down side is, now I wish I bought the 4.2 supercharged

That's what you call 'cheap motoring' something you don't always associate with Range Rovers!  2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Looking at the parts price list I don't really see where the expense is. Seems like the parts are generally in line with any other manufacturer but its the labour. One garage said they wanted £400 labour to do the rads. Took me 4 hours including bleeding the rad and getting it regassed but that wasnt really working all the time

So little update. Done both radiators on the range and guess who didn't put the fan shroud back in the correct place and chewed the bottom hose pipe up. Yep that would be me so done a temp repair on that as it's basically leaking out a pin hole so but of mastic and electric tape jobs a goodun

New modification today to the v8. Had a split in one of the pipes from the expansion tank so sorted that out. Ordered some led bulbs for the reverse lights and low and behold the screw brackets are so brittle it just falls apart so ordered them. Just need to do a minor repair to the indicator next once I've changed the side lights so something more white rather then the candle yellow look

Yea done a pretty good job. I've picked up the panels so will get them cut n welded in soon.

Close one with the belt!!! Tried doing it the other day but couldn't get the fan nut to break. Ordered the locking tool and jobs a goodun. All changed in an hour.

Sooooo next part of the story. Just had a massive box turn up which come from Slovakia. I've just finished work from looking after the public of London so I'm gonna get some sleep for a few hours then I'll fit the parts later on.....

Woooops forgot to do an update yesterday. Box turns out to be some side steps of the fleabay so fitted the passenger side then soon as I went to have a look at the drivers side I thought, yeah think I'll let the garage have this problem. Turns out when I had the sills done they angle grinded the side steps off instead of removing the air tank plus the nuts are pretty well rusted up so I'm hoping they can just weld a fresh nut on top of the bolt then turn it loose that way. Still got a long list of things I want to do to it tho like get better brakes as these ones feel like I might as well use my feet to slow me down.

Earning its keep today with some towing duties. Might have forgot that trailer was on the back at one point

So finally changed the plugs and oil on the range today. Took longer then normal as I'm recovering from a bad case of covid but pretty simple too do what should I discover. Oh yea all 8 spark plugs all loaded up with oil so ordered a new rocker cover gasket set so that will be the next job this week.

On top of that, the other night the alternator decided it didn't want too work any more. Smelt a bit of a burning sensation and the battery was only charging at 10volts with the engine running. Been online to gentlemen of salvage and I've acquired a bosch alternator for £50 so won't argue with that if it lasts me 3 months.

Seen as both items won't be posted until Monday at the earliest, I guess it seems sensible to start undoing the cam covers and removing the alternator so hopefully Tuesday it will all go back together with no trouble.
