Does replacement display need to be coded to my vehicle?

UPDATE: January 15, 2021 (yes, the USA format!)

I bought a used display off of eBay and it was plug and play. No special coding of the part to work in my car.

------------
Hi everyone,

The radio/navigation display is having the (apparently common) issue of flickering. It's very annoying and I'm exploring my various options.

If I have to replace it with either a used or new one, do I need to code this part to my particular vehicle or are they plug and play?

If it has to be coded, will most of the diagnostic tools do this? There are a bunch of them and I'm still exploring which would be the best for me.

Thanks!

I’ve never done it, but I have never heard of coding to the vehicle being required.

ANSWER: No, there is no special coding or anything to replace the radio/navigation display. Just unplug the old one and plug in the new one.

The hard part is disassembling the whole top of the dashboard to access the unit! Once you've done that it's easy Smile.

Cam-Tech-Craig,

Is that the 3rd gen L322 with two buttons above the knobs on each side you're referring to? I'm talking about the USA spec second gen L322 with three buttons above the knobs on each side.

I was not sure and just bought one from a local wrecking yard and it just plugged straight in.

But that's good information to know for when I eventually buy a 2012 L322 in 4 years or so (when they become more affordable for me Very Happy).

Thanks!

JNC,

The radio/navigation display in your 2011 FF is a different model than mine. I'm guessing that the whole process to remove it is also different.

I would suggest that you check out the service manual or look for a YouTube video.

Good luck!
