Hi folks,Just out of interest,What diagnostic tools do you diy guys use?
I had a icarsoft for my previous chariot (Merc ml) and found it a good piece of kit,not quite dealer level of interrogation but good none the less.

Didn't want to spend 100's but just have a decent all rounder.

Await the flood of people recommending the GAP IID tool.... This rightly has an enviable reputation and customer support is second to none. It appears fairly expensive at first sight, but second-hand prices remain fairly high, so there is an opportunity to recover most of the cost later.

For another perspective try http://britishdiagnostics.co.uk/buy-now/. Not the same thing at all, but an interesting alternative to consider. There are concerns about lack of customer support, which might be justified. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

I've now sold my IID Tool (and my Fatty) but I wouldn't hesitate recommending GAP and their IID Tool.
It's cost was very quickly recovered, and the Tech Support was more than excellent, it was astonishingly good.

Just bought myself a 2011 FF and I'm tooling up for the inevitable maintenance journey ahead. In order to stay on top of things and be able to effectively diagnose I'm gonna need some help, so to the question:

Is Gap iiD THE tool to have no questions, or is there any others to consider?

The forum convinced me that the IIDTool is the way to go.
So having purchased one I was very disappointed to find that it doesn't work on my car, I spoke to Gap and they said its a common problem.
Apparently the pins on the IIDTool meet the OBD standard and suggested that my iCarsoft tool has thicker pins. On checking that was the case but the iCarsoft works perfectly, my IIDTool wont work because on close inspection the OBD socket female pins are damaged.
Gap have on their website an article that may help cure the problem if the pins are loose but in my case at least two pins are broken and do not make contact with the IIDTool.

So before you buy check your cars OBD socket and be prepared to repare/replace it. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Anyone got a IID recently and has done the looking round to see where is cheapest?

Duckworth’s have an EBay ad running. That’s the cheapest I could find for the BlueTooth model at £485 delivered.

GAP’s own website Prices seems cracking value until you add VAT and import duty!

There’s a Few on EBay which aren’t BT as well, which is why they are cheaper.

Have been using my gap Id tool to fix one of our D3s the back up service from GAP has been great with help in using the tool and fixing the problems. Now all resolved. Almost instant response from the GAP team.

What kind of price to they fetch second hand? I know there's the £25 transfer fee to pay to Gap to move it from one vin to another so it's registered to me 2011 Vogue SE Tdv8 FFRR

They hold their value extremely well so I would just buy a new one to save the hassle of waiting for one and then missing it as they get snapped up extremely quickly on forums. Also, no £25 to transfer if you buy new.
Island 4x4 and Bell Auto Services also have them. Need the Bluetooth version. Runs off an app. It's the muts nuts!

I have one available that's surplus to requirements (my FF is gone to a good home). I'm asking £325 including delivery. The new price did take a significant hike (upwards) about a year ago.
