I have noticed that if I don’t use my RR for a couple of days it seems to take a few seconds for the gearbox to engage? Is that normal for a 2013 SDV8 4.4 autobiography, car has only done 67,000 miles with FMDSH

I get this on my 2008 3.6 TDV8. Mine is the 6 speed auto but I presume yours is the 8 speed.

First thing to check would be autobox fluid level. Mine was ok. I'm suspicious of the sleeves between the mechatronic unit and the gearbox itself but I haven't investigated yet.

Not too sure how the rotary selector works on the 8hp in terms of its integration with the box but if it has any cable linkage in there my first port of call would be getting some spray grease onto the Bowden cable.

The 6hp Bowden cable linking the selector stick to the box is known for starting to stick which makes it slow engaging a gear once selected with the knob. Ie select drive/reverse and it takes a second or two before the gearbox reacts.

Again get in there with some spray grease and work it into the cable. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
