I have noticed that some people obscure their number plate when posting pictures...

Must admit I'm never quite sure why & what purpose it serves, any photo's of mine have the reg no clearly visible.
There could be a more sinister reason but I can't think what.  2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

It probably doesn't warrant a vote on this occasion as it really depends on the owner, some don't mind having their number plate on display in pictures posted here, others feel differently and decide they would rather obscure them.Personally I'm not sure it matters either way, after all, your number plate is on full display whenever you are driving or are parked 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

In July this year my daughter and her partner bought a car from a dealer in west london. Reg no was clearly shown
on web site. No problems for couple of months driving new car locally. drove to visit some friends in Southend and
within two miles of entering the Essex border on M25 were T packed by police, very aggressively had keys removed
and told to get out of car. Turned out that another same make car had been stolen and their plate had been cloned. cloned car had been used in armed garage and atm machine robberies in Essex. Once confirmed it was not who they were looking for they were allowed to go. On way back home were again stopped and questioned and told to place a mark on the car in case stopped again. As most of us put a rough area in which we live this can happen to any of us if we show plate numbers on line.

Just down to personal preference really, if people feel safer then that's fair enough.

Unfortunately this is the world we live in. Although the majority of people are good law abiding citizens, there are people out there that are Not.
This issue is not just related to prestige vehicles, but any vehicle & I have seen many examples of No Plate cloning etc.

Therefore I feel that it is quite acceptable for those owners wishing to obscure their registration plate.

Next time you pass a lorry carrying damaged vehicles bound for the Salvage yard, just look at all the vehicles No plates

Cloning has increased I believe since the end of tax discs, to avoid paying RFL previously you had to get a forged tax disc and hope that you don’t get pulled and found out. Lots of cloned motors have also been stolen and rptheir identities changed. Quick check online to ensure it’s twin is taxed, insured and mot’d and you have cheap motoring! 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I don't obscure my plates, but understand why some people do.

A few years ago a friend of mine bought a new Land Cruiser and decided to take his family out for a Sunday drive in the Cotswolds. Whilst he was driving along the Fosse Way he saw a similar spec & colour LC coming towards him and pointed it out to his wife and then realised as it got close that it had the same numberplate as his

For the reasons above I tend to hide mine.

It’s not paranoia really as I do think the chance of anything untoward happening is quite slim, however it seems to me to make decent sense. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The world will keep on turning if I keep my license plate a bit private, nothing personal but cloning is a problem that can be a bit bothersome.

All my vechicles have personalised (correctly displayed) number plates on. Not sure it they are "vanity" plates, perhaps they are.

I got more chance of being run over by my own car than having a number plate cloned. And even then. No big deal, it is just a VRN.

Absolutely no point in going through the “bother” of attempting to hide them in my opinion and extensive online experience.
