Time for an update on the old girl
The first major thing that has changed over the past few months has been the exhaust, after 19yrs and several bad repairs the original system was very worse for wear and to be fair it sounded quite bad...
Removal of the old system required the use of my angle grinder more than anything else!
No sockets required

After much faffing around with the mounts it came free!
To be fair after seeing it off the car I did wonder how it managed to stay together!
The only slight complication was dirt/rust on the chassis behind the mufflers, which is quite common on P38s.
It looked worse than it was!
I wire brushed it off and wiped it down to see what condition the metal was in.
Thankfully it was in good nick, a coat of hammerite kurust and some waxoyl should keep it at bay for a while

Much better!
And while the centre muffler was out of the way the chassis was painted!
Before and after as usual

Moving on!
The exhaust replacement next, in the form of a nice Janspeed stainless unit, after much faffing and swearing it was fitted, the only real issue of the day was working on gravel
The first oval hole and shotgun tip out the back
2nd one fitted
Of course I polished the unit underneath too!
After a quick rub down!
And finally!!
Some better shots of the unit on the car!
Much better!
Sounds the part too!!
