SWMBO Going Self Employed : Domain / Email Hosting

Gents,

Looks as though the wife will be joining me on the dark side. Due diligence has been done, we should be in a very strong position , been thankfull she has active clients with no need to look for any new business in the short term.

Having never had the need to buy a domain & email for business, any recommendations , a quick search turns up a vast number of options, so what do you use, what's worked etc. Not sure if we even need web presence initially but you never know.

We are looking at a simple.co or .something domain plus email addresses, won't be building staff numbers so no concerns there.

Cheers

Mr Tee

I haven't done a website but used GoDaddy for email addresses. Not had any problem. There are probably members on here who supply such a service. John

Hi Mr Tee,

I have had my own dedicated servers since the 90's and currently operate about a dozen domains with separate email accounts etc. for my own companies, all designed and developed by myself.

I used to host and manage several hundred websites on my own dedicated servers in the 90's for customers that purchased websites and eCommerce stores from me.

My current server is relatively hi spec and costs me around £200 per month. Dedicated servers are available from around 100 USD per month.

As to domain names / email accounts / websites without your own server I strongly recommend 123reg.co.uk. Again I have had an account with them since the 90's. You can manage everything through their free control panel - very easy to use.

I have an IT / web design / development background spanning decades, if you need assistance just PM me and I will send you my mobile number - happy to help set you up as I have all of the necessary software licences to design and build websites - FOC to you as a member of FFRR of course Smile

I recently moved everything I had "online" from 1&1 / IONOS to Hostinger, very happy customer.

Excellent value, easy to use control panel, fast & good customer support. (Best value if you pay up front for a couple of years)

Personally, I am always wary of the cheapest offers on the IT services market, as the cheapest supplier could disappear overnight, including all of the services they are supplying. The very last thing you would want is a disruption to / loss of your business website / email services due to the service provider / host going out of business.

Quality of product / service is remembered long after price is forgotten.

123Reg has been around for decades and has a comprehensive service offering managed through a single control panel.

I have no affiliation with 123reg, but have been using their services for over 23 years, since 1997. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

May I suggest you keep your domain and hosting separate as if things do go wrong it gives you a bit more flexability to get up and running again
Of course it all depends on how much you rely on the site for trade, and if you can afford for it to be down

It can also bite you on the backside if theres an issue blaming each other, if it's the same company they have to sort it. BMW i3 Electric Car

I've used Nativespace for many years. Great support when needed. Mainly for our emails, but they did host a website for me for a while too. Mike - MPx
